Light leakage return help

I went into my sprint store last week and was put on the list to get another unit once they came in. I went in with complaints of grounding issues and minor light leakage. Well this new update just removed the grounding issues so all I am left with is the minor light leakage.

In darker settings I can see light under my home, menu, and search buttons. In any settings when I look down on the phone as if it were standing upright on a surface, I can see light coming from every single button.

While I can live with this phone, in the past few weeks I've developed tiny little scratches on the stand. The part were it lays on scratches easily(mind you the majority of the time I lay it down is on a microfiber cloth.

I know I am being anal about such small scratches but is the light leakage a good enough reason to do an exchange?

If I were you is wait. The leakage issue is a manufacturers defect so its safe to say you can have it replaced at anytime. Reason I'm saying is you might want to wait for another build perhaps. They for sure are going to change some things and as soon as they get caught up to demand the production quality should improve dramatically. But I do know how hard it is to have patience when it comes to something as awesome as our king of cellphones. F the iPhone! Evo's boss hogg now.

Yeah just got back from the sprint store and they would not exchange it saying that the light leakage is on all of the phones. I understand the light leakage coming from above the buttons when you look at the screen at a downward view but I don't feel its a common issue below the buttons. I can only see it in darker situations but it is still annoying especially after paying close to $500 for this phone

I was going to write off the leakage at the bottom but my phone has developed a good amount of leakage on the right side from top to bottom and has just started to peek out of the left. I can also see a tiny speck of dust in one corner. Pretty sure it will only get worse from here so I got myself put on the list.

Surprisingly my store rep said he has had no one come in complaining about the issue and he had no idea, all this while he was already putting my name on the list, no real questioning on his part.

I suspect they are getting too many requests for new exchanges now. They can't keep it up. The light leak issue (for those that have it), is bound to go to the bottom of the issues list. You do have the option to return it and cancel the upgrade within 30 days. You lose the phone and account upgrade though. That's all Sprint guarantees you. HTC has declared the light leak a non-issue, so I doubt they will be doing warranty service for it. I think Sprint was eating those phones to keep customers happy.

I think this is a perfectly valid reason. Here's the thing: YOU'RE THE CONSUMER! You are ultimately the person who has to use and look at the phone everyday! So, if you're even a slight bit unhappy with it, why not return it to get one that functions PROPERLY?

That is their job, to get you a working phone. They are pumped off a factory line, so not every one will be perfect, but you're stuck with a leaking one unless you say something.

I went to Sprint today with the major concerns of light leakage (around the whole bottom half of my phone), grounding issues on soft surfaces, and horrid battery life. They will be contacting me when they get a shipment in to replace my phone (hopefully tomorrow). I was unsatisfied with my DEFECTIVE, HIGH-END phone, so I expressed this and they are replacing it. It shouldn't leak...that's a fact, and they can't tell you otherwise, they must replace a defective phone.

Yeah, once my case comes in the mail, I'm going in and demanding a new phone. I understand the light leakage above the buttons but I find it hard to believe its normal for below the buttons. I have it there and along the bottom side edges as well. At first it was only below the home menu and search but now its below all four making me think it has gotten worst.

If they refuse to change it, I'll return it and take my business elsewhere.

Not to beat a dead horse but I was hoping for some opinions on whether or not to exchange my phone.

i have the usual light leakage under the home and back buttons. But whereas it was only noticeable it a completely dark room when I first got it, I can see it in complete daylight now. Also, there is light leakage along the bottom left side that wasn't there before.

Where the glass in the bottom left corner before was slightly below the bezel, it is even, and if I run my nail across it, it might actually be slightly above.

I love my EVO, but actually now that I look back at what I just wrote, I am definitely leaning towards exchanging it.

Anyone have any idea what happens if they don't have any in stock to exchange before the 30 days is up? I bought mine at Radio Shack. Can you exchange it at any RS or does it have to be the one where you bought it?

This is the 6th thread in less than a week that I have answered about returning a phone. Please people, do a search...

Take it back to where you bought it. They will put a note on the account, flagging you for a replacement. When they get a new shipment in, you will get a new one. Dont worry about the 30 days, as long as you TELL them before the 30 days, you will get a new one. A manager told me they were expecting a new shipment this Friday or Saturday.
