Just found out they released this today, ive had the g1 for like a year and a half and I like it, but ive been really hoping for that 2.x update that i dont think is ever coming, this new phone looks real sick and i need a hard keyboard, i hate touchscreen keyboards. if anyone has it, how do you like it? and do you think its worth upgrading from the g1 to this?

Given what you're coming from, I can't see why it wouldn't be. I can tell you some reasons but really why not just try it? You get 14 days to try it out after all. I can't compare it to the G1 having never owned one, but I really like both the hardware and on-screen keyboards. The biggest thing here though is going to be the software. Night and day from what you have. This phone is very feature rich and just feels good in the hand. Still, everyone is different so maybe you should just give it a try and see.

Hey, here are my thoughts on this phone.

As far as the keyboard goes, I gaurantee you will very rarely use it, once you try swype. Swype is so fast, it makes the keyboard completely unnessesary.

The call quality is pretty good.

The build quality is average to poor. I'm convinced now that HTC just produces low quality products. I would highly suggest you consider a different manufacturor.

I'm having problems with my text messages being out of order, and text message indicator stuck on 1 new message. Someone has suggested this is a bug in HTC Sense UI. Hopefully a software update will fix this issue.

The phone in my opinion is overpriced at 179.99 with a new 2 yr contract. It does not offer all the fetures as other android phones with similar price points. iPhone, Evo, Android X, Incredible... etc are all around the same price, yet they offer many more feutures like a faster processor.

The processor is too slow on this phone. This is not a big deal, unless you are doing stuff that requires processing power. For example, I often look at pdf files on the phone, loading one pdf page to the next, takes a good 5-8 seconds per page, it is very slow. The phone does not support live wallpapers, supposedly because the processor is not fast enough.

The more aps you download from market, and run, the slower the system seems to get. Also when I take pics at 5 megapixels, then go back to look through my photo album, it takes a good 5 seconds for the phone to properly render each picture to full clarity. Other android phones with 1ghz processors do this almost instantly.

The battery life is acceptable, you might want to purchase an additional battery, if you surf the net all day, or play games or something like that.

The biggest reason to get this phone is because of T-Mobile, they offer good customer service. However, I have to admit, T-Mobile customer service is not as good as it was 3-5 yrs ago.

I would say deffinately get the 5.99 insurance plan, with a 130(i think) deductable. If this phone breaks or you loose it, it cots over 400 bucks. However, within the next year or so, if the full retail price of the phone drops, then I would cancel the insurance. 5.99 a month plus 130 deductable isn't worth it after a while.

What else can I tell you...umm there is an optical button on the center of the phone, I still don't know what this button does.

The phone comes with 5 home screens, but you can change this to 7, through the settings.

The screen is clear enough for me, and has good brightness levels. However, under the sun, even when set at max brightness, it is hard to read the screen.

Camera/Camcorder quality is amazing. It is only 5 megapixels, but blows away a previous 8 megapixel phone I had.

HTC gives you really nice ear phones, with built in mic, fastforward button for mp3 player, and recieve and hang-up call button on the ear phones.

Really cool plasticy aluminum looking case.

It comes with a usb cable/combo charger. The usb cable is useless, it is way too short. I like having my phone charge next to me in bed, but the cable is sooo short, it doesn't reach next to me that well.

If this phone was priced at 119.99, I would say get it. However, at 179.99, I think you should wait to see what new phones T-mobile has lined at the end of summer.

Also, trust me when I say, swype is so fast, you won't need a phone with a keyboard.

$179 is after mail in rebate. Wal-mart has it for $130-150 though and I think radio shack has it on sale for $80.
