The unrevoked guys released the two patched versions with the OTA from yesterday.

For people that did not do the update 1.47.651.1 yet you can install this:
public:evo_ota_2_patch [RootWiki]

And for users that did the update you can use this patch:
http://unrevoked.com/ota/OTA_Supersonic_1.47.651.1-1.32.651.6_unrevoked-noradio.zip

It looks like this root method is more like flashing a rom so what I'd like to know is if it erases all the DATA on your EVO or is it like the first unrevoked where your EVO stayed intact?

anyhow, good to see the unrevoked guys coming out with this so fast.

Good question, I don't know the answer though. I am rooted and haven't updated so im not sure if this update will break that method or now. All i can say is try it. The worst that could happen is that you aren't able to get root. But I haven't heard that it breaks the xda method, only the unrevoked one. I'll post back if I hear anything though.

I wouldn't bother with this yet. Sounds like no one is certain how well it works, what it does, etc. Give them time, they'll probably have another rooting app like before soon.
Yeah, I'm waiting on this too. I'm following them on Twitter and now they are wondering if there's a Wimax issue. They are asking for someone who did the OTA update yesterday to contact them. Patience is a virtue at this point I think. :)

ok so now that the official HTC update is on the loose again anybody tried to do the update and then apply the unrevoked patch and see if everything is fine?

so tempted to do the update but don't want to loose unrevoked and WiFi Tether

edit: nevermind, now unrevoked pulled their patch :(

I think that if you can't root the correct way you shouldn't be aloud to root.

Learning to root the correct way would answer 90% of all your questions about ROMs and ADB. ADB isn't that hard, the hardest part is downloading the files. Everything else is just simply doing what others tell you.

Do it right the first time and be done with it.

maybe some just don't want to deal with wiping the data just yet so unrevoked is/was a great option for those people (myself included)

trust me I come from WM and I'm not afraid of rooting. I flushed many roms and hacked many devices, I just don't want to deal with full force ROM flushing on my EVO just yet

theres a "correct" way to root? Last time I checked there were several good ways to root.

But not everybody needs to totally root or correct way root as you say, JUST to be able to tether. Unrevoked is just for people who want a stock phone but want to run a couple apps that need superuser permission. Not everybody wants to load roms and custom this and that. For a lot stock is just fine.
