Another one of "those" people

Sorry to be another one of those people guys but I am truely at a loss of what to do here.

I purchased my Evo on June 18th from Radio Shack. The next day I noticed that I was one of the many people to have the problem with the light leaking out of the bottom of the phone.

So I go back to Radio Shack a couple days later (I didn't have time to do it right away) and talk to the manager about exchanging the phone. She was very nice and had no problem ordering me a new one.

Well the new one came in today and has the same problem. I didn't even have to turn it on to notice that the screen was coming off. I told her I don't want that phone. She apologized and I told her its not her fault its not like you guys are making them in the back room or something. So she told me to go to a Sprint store to see if there was anything they could do.

Went to the Sprint store and they said to go to one of their service centers because that store wasnt one. I didn't even bother to waste my time driving over there. I just gave them a call and they said they cant do anything until after the 30 days are up. I definitely was not trying to hear that.

So I called Sprint (*2) explained to them what is happening and they told me they same thing they will not help me until the 30 days are up. All I want from them is to send me a replacement because getting a replacement from Radio Shack obviously is not helping and its quite possible that getting a replacement from Sprint could have the same problem too but I'm willing to take those chances.

I really just need some advice on what to do here cause everyone else seems to give me the run around. Again I'm sorry for complaining like a little girl but its just so frustrating.

Eh, it's company standards to not accept a return when someone they didn't purchase the phone through them. I bought mine from radioshack and i have slight leakage, and the battery cover problem. Sprint said i had to wait for my 30 days to be up, so i guess ill wait another week before banging on their door.

wait it out.
not sure how bad your leakage is, but i have some slight light leakage under the home, back and search buttons. only noticeable in a completely dark room, and even then you sorta gotta look for it. imo, mine isn't worth a return. esp since the screen isn't coming off and newer versions may/may not have the samsung screens whereas mine does. i consider myself lucky, actually, and won't be returning mine for exchange unless there's a serious issue.

I was just about to post the SAME exact thing. I'm on my second evo from RS. I went back to get another replacement, but they said they are out, and it could be weeks before they get any more in. I called Sprint CS, and the rep said they would be glad to take care of it since RS was out of stock. But the guy said that since I bought it from RS, his computer wouldnt let him order a replacement. He told me to go into a Sprint store and they would order me one. I went into the store today, and was told by the manager they are NOT allowed to touch a phone that was bought from BB or RS. He said even if he could order me one, they have 100 phones on backorder, and it too would be weeks before I get another one. Both companies are giving us the run-around here.

Same thing is happening to me except I can't even get my first replacement. Sprint.com, the corporate Sprint Store & Radio Shack all tell me that they don't have any in stock. How are people even getting initial replacements in the first place. Which Sprint # are people calling for the replacement units?

I'm getting the same run around from BB and Sprint. Neither one wants to accept responsibility and fix the problem. Mine is bricked, so I am probably returning it to BB and will stick with my Incredible or look at iP4.

If you purchased your phone from Radio Shack, go in there and tell them to order you another one. They will need your receipt inorder to do this.

The people at Radio Shack told me they were still trying to fill back orders and that by the time they would be able to order me a new EVO it would be passed the 30 day return period so there is nothing they can do. Lot of help from them.

Yup. The reality is that we all have to get in line for the newly fixed model no matter where we bought the phone. Or, if you're like me, still on the waiting list for my first Evo for 2 weeks!

You have a year manufacturers warranty on it. Just use the phone and if you still are unhappy with it in 30 days then deal with Sprint. Unless your screen is actually off. Look I think no matter what there is going to be some bit of light leakage. That does not mean the screen is going to come off. I think these forums have caused a Placebo effect where people are seeing things that might not be there. Just my two cents though

I completely agree, but they should put the order in for me at least. I have no problem waiting for it to come in while they fill previous orders, even if it takes a month. They can't hold me accountable for not exchanging within the 30 day window when I have tried. Especially considering I paid full price, $499.99, for my unit.

Exactly what they told me. They apologized, but said they had hundreds or pre-orders that havent been filled yet. I realize this, and don't want to take a phone away from someone who hasent even gotten one yet. But on the other hand, the guy said, after 30 days their system won't even let them do a replacement. And Sprint can't touch it UNTIL the 30 days is up.

I really don't have a problem waiting til my 30 days is up, but the manager at the Sprint store today told me after 30 days I would DEFINETLY get a refurbished phone. I don't feel I should get a refurbished phone because Sprint and HTC didnt make these phones well, and didn't send enough in time.

You have a year manufacturers warranty on it

And like I said, between the first 30 days and the one year, sprint WILL replace the phone. BUT it will be a refurbished phone, and I'm sure most of us have had bad luck with refurbished phones in the past, I know I have...

Hate to see it but they exchange with refurbished phones because of the large amount of people that are running out and exchanging because of light leakage that might not even result in any screen separation and that is noticeable only in complete darkness. Not saying there are not legitimate issues out there but there are also those that have jumped on the band wagon.

Aw yay my 1,000th post lol

Anyway

I personally recommend you take it back. You might want to leave HTC alone and await the galaxy S

People supposedly hate Samsung due to the fact of some issues with a low end device(like the behold and what not)

But i think it is ******ed Sprint is not doing anything to help you. True you didn't buy the phone through them directly however they give you the option of purchasing a Sprint device at Sprint Affiliated stores and they should work with customers.

it wasn't like you brought it off Ebay or Craigslist.

I am glad to still lurk around the Evo forums because I was considering getting an incredible but after Three bad experiences with HTC(Eris, Hero, and EVO) and reading
the complaints of the issues with these devices about HTC horrible build quality
I am just going to deal with Motorola for the time being and perhaps Samsung when the Fascinate comes out.

I honestly would just return it and await for Samsung Epic to come out(which is probably in the next month or two) because aside from being 0.3 inches smaller, that phone's specs are obviously better than the EVO's(notice i said the specs and not i think it is better) and is pretty much on par with the EVO in every way.

Or if you can leave(and want to leave sprint) get a non-HTC android device on another carrier
