Get Nexus One now? or wait for Nexus Two?

I currently have a Motorola Cliq that is on its last legs, it has random touches on the screen when I'm not touching it and will freeze for a few seconds sometimes and drop calls on occasion.

I want to switch to an official google phone because I prefer just plain android and I am sick of waiting for updates. There hasn't been any news on a nexus two since january, maybe it was canceled?

Should I get a nexus one or hold out for the nexus two, maybe it will be the 2ghz moto phone?

ps... I know there is a few "Nexus One or wait" threads, but those are more geared towards getting a nexus one or waiting for the next big android phone in general, I'm only really interested in one straight from google.

At the very least, the G1 and MyTouch3G were both vanilla Android phones, with no carrier restriction/bloatware.

Yeah, thats why i said future phones will always be under carrier restriction/bloatware.

I cant think of a single phone since the N1 that has vanilla android. Just not gonna happen ever again since the carriers want to differentiate their phones from the competition...

It's not just the carriers but manufacturers as well. I believe manufacturers are the one that will make the vanilla Android extinct.

HTC - Sense UI
Motorola - Motoblur UI
Samsung - Bada UI
Acer - ???

I believe all of Motorola's phones after the Moto Droid have Motoblur on it. Samsung seems to be really pushing its Bada UI with the Galaxy S.
HTC...from all of the phones it has released this year, there really isn't one that doesn't have Sense on it (and no, the Nexus One doesn't count, even though it's made by HTC...it's not an HTC phone)

Bada is Samsung's own mobile OS. I believe you wanted to say TouchWiz UI

Good luck trying to find a phone in the future with vanilla android like the N1 has. The nexus one was a once in a lifetime sort of thing with no chan

I beg to differ. At the very least, the G1 and MyTouch3G were both vanilla Android phones, with no carrier restriction/bloatware.

Isn't thee original/fender/1.2 mytouch getting sense ui once it is upgraded to 2.2? Like the slide. Virtually leaving the g1as the only vanilla android phone on tmo

Yeah, was too lazy to correct him earlier but I'm happy you knew what I meant BiGMERF :)

Due to the Carriers + Manufacturers on a mission to destroy vanilla android I feel like one of the last of my species :(

I thought google said that Gingerbread is suppose to be make all those skins useless (maybe obsolete is the better word?) as they want to concentrate on the UI experience. If that is true and companies such as HTC, Motorola, and Samsung still continue to put skins on there phone wouldn't it make sense for google to try to push there updated UI another way, aka N2? We know the sales of the N1 weren't stellar, but Google isn't a small company and could suck it up as a learning experience and release an N2 with the lessons learned from the N1. I am not going to hold my breath for an N2, but I still believe there is a possibility, and if they do I hope they choose motorola, I think the build quality is better with them.

Google will attempt to make the UI good enough that the manufacturers/carriers don't have as much of a reason to add on their own UI modifications. The problem is that the easiest (cheapest) way for a manufacturer/carrier to differentiate their phone is through the UI. Look at the number of android phones that have the same screen size, processor, memory...

Yes and if they use vanilla Android, well...the Moto's Android phone is basically the same as the HTC's one.

One thing I have noticed is that Motorola likes to have phyiscal QWERTY keyboard but HTC doesn't...the only HTC phone I can think of with QWERTY keyboard was the G1/Dream.

I think it's really MOT that Google should focus on UI...unless its intention is to release the N2. I don't believe manufacturers will forgo their branded UI that differentiated their Android phones to the other ones.

yeah i wouldn't concern yourself with an N2 right now... there's been no murmurings...

I kindof agree w/ ap3604 in that the market in the US is actually very anticompetitive right now. It's actually kindof shocking how bad it's gotten... the carriers will try to differentiate themselves w/ their various interfaces... and try as hard as they can not to compete on price... bad news for us.
