Yep, I know everything is a moving target. But Android OS has yet to mature so let it mature first then buy. Also, the only good Android OS phone is HTC with its Sense UI. Google should get every manufacturer to streamline something first so this is the right step.

I'll buy when:
1. A 1024x768 display can be sqeeze into a 5" screen.
2. When average battery life is minimum 3 days not like charging every other day.
3. When OS upgrades are yearly rather than every 3 months...
4. Xenon flash and optical zoom comes as standard.

I wanted a Dell streak, but after reading few reviews, I'm holding back. I have seen that Altek optical zoom smartphone. Cnet Asia has an article about it. Will not be long until its offered.

2. have you used a phone? if you want any capabilities you will have no battery life, at least not one that lasts 2 days....
3. gmail is technically still in beta, its google, updates are probably always going to be frequent.

2. Yes. Dell streak has a descent batter life. It will only get better. My old gaming laptop had a battery life of 2 hours 30mins, same gaming laptop with same dimensions now has 4h 30miins battery life.
3. Early adopters of android ver 1.x are not able to upgrade their products due to the hardware limitation.
5. No. I use a SE C510 now to replace my Canon S3 IS. Bored lugging around a big camera everywhere. That canon S3 IS was great when lanched some 3 years ago. Now same spec or slightly higher without the detachable screen can be found on Canon SX200 IS.

mmm. SE C510 is a low end phone. Not a smart phone. So technically yes. I'd settle just 3 on the list without the optical zoom part but then its still some time away before I commit myself to a smartphone

Things aren't looking good for t-mobile's mytouch lineup.

I think this means either the end of android on t-mobile or t-mobile getting a new lineup of mytouch devices with 1ghz processors.

Yes that is true but that will be one of the only devices with Android 3.0 aside from the flagship Android 3.0 device known as the HTC Vision and maybe the Nexus One if they bring that in stores. That is a major problem. after 2.2 is upgraded to all the mytouches they are finished. They will have to create a new lineup that coincides with the Android 3.0 standard. 1ghz device with 3.5 inch screen. T-MObile just said not too long ago no phones left behind in regards to mytouch devices.

T-mobile is screwed at the end of the year. They most likely won't even get a new line up of mytouch devices by the summer of next year.

I am so interested in to see what happens though.

a 5" screen with optical zoom? Do you realize how big and bulky that would be?

Look up Eldar Murtazin according to google is a well respected journalist. As in nobody hear of? thats false.

This guy is not new to the game. He was the first N900 reviewer for example. He is chief editor of mobile review check it out.

And the 2 yr contract issue, that 100% on you. Nobody made you sign the contract, and you could always buy the phone outright with no discounts. Google android has nothing to do with the contracts, its all you. The contract is literally giving you $200 - $500 off the purchase of that phone, in exchange for a 2 year subscription of their service.

Seriously? Do you expect to be kept up to date on other operating systems you run too for free? Cry to microsoft you want win7 free because you bought vista 2 years ago. Especially when you buy a mid range or low end device. Android development is moving faster than any mobile platform has ever moved. Would you rather they slow down and not keep making these great updates and new features?
