my blackberry combined ALL messages into one single inbox.....mms text emails from all my email address...fbook updates EVERYTHING

this is EXTREMELY annoying that I have to open each and every application to see it's own inbox.

Is there a solution...I'd settle if it could at least combine all 3 of my gmails to one inbox...I have to have 3 for work otherwise I wouldn't, so is there an app for that..

or is it an I DON'T

cuz right now feels like BBERRY 1 DROID none.....well ok droid wins with pretty much everything else but this drives me insane.

I'm not aware of one, but I came from a Blackberry too and it doesn't really bother me. I have messaging and gmail both on the home screen, so when the proper icon pops up I just click on that inbox. I personally like having them separated.

I'm willing to bet that (if you don't grow accustomed to it) some developer will share in your plight and make an app in the near future that consolidates your messages, if there is not one already.

I have now seperated each Gmail inbox to a seperate "shortcut" on the homescreen....problem now is that there's no notification to tell me which of the 3 gmails the incoming message belongs to.....so I either have to drag down the notification bar to access the message.....or play door number 1 door number 2 door number 3.

How can they be this dumb not to have the icon on the home screen have like an asterisk next to it when there's unread messages...........for the love of god someone please right an app for this.

once again BBerry figured this out years ago and it just feels like android completely missed the mark with not combing all messages into a single inbox and not even giving notification on the home screen as to which inbox has unread mail....FAIL. someone please tell me this is user error I would be happier if it was something i'm not understanding versus just being "the way it is"

I wouldn't call anyone dumb, especially if they can program an entire phone OS and you don't know which "write" to use. The phone hasn't been out for a week. I believe you can combine multiple inboxes in the regular email app and color code them or something like that.

DUDE obviously I'm just blowing off steam...don't take it so serious.

ps...by responding that you believe that you can combine inboxes and color code them "or something like that" doesn't help me.....SHOW me what you're talking about PROVE i'm the idiot I WOULD THANK YOU because as of right now I have tried everything I can to make this work to no avail I would really appreciate some help with directions from someone who's actually been successful.

I already said it once but I'll say it again.....someone tell me it's user error and show me what I'm doing wrong.

I don't give 2 $hit$ if my grammar isn't correct, this is a forum not a job, write or wrong haha yeah right! write?

I only have one gmail account so I can't test anything but according to this: Motorola Droid: Software Review | Android Phone Fans its possible

gotcha you're referring to this statement

Another hint that Google takes from HTC Sense and Motorola Blur is a combined inbox that allows you to view Email and messages from MULTIPLE accounts in ONE source.

2 ways to interpret that.

If source = icon on home screen then yeah it does that but that doesn't mean the inboxes are combined into one list.

i'm not trying to be argumentative so don't take it as that, i'm seriously hoping it can be done....and if not I'm failry certain it will become an app shortly.

thanks for the link

I haven't purchased the Droid yet...but I've read in several places, both in this forum and other blogs, this can be done. Just last night I recall reading a post from someone (along with instructions on how to do it)...he was combining one Google Apps work gmail account and two separate personal gmail accounts all into the same inbox and they were all three visible (all the messages) in the one inbox he went to by clicking on the one Gmail icon.

If I stumble upon it I'll let you know...but I just had nothing to do last night and went through nearly ever post on this forum...that's about 60 pages worth? I honestly don't want to do that again. You might also try doing an advance search.

In the meantime I'll IM a friend of mine who's in Atlanta on business travel (with a Droid) and he has his biz and personal accounts on it. Not sure if he has them, or wants them, combined...but I'll ask. I personally always wanted mine separated and not in the same inbox...too much chance of screwing up :)

Larry, I think I found it here

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15081-droid-text-email-signature.html#post101523

which explains that the gmail app can't do it but the regular mail app can...

just did it..

it works, sort of

but there's still no direct link to the combined inbox, you have to first click on the email icon, then select whether you want to view the combined email or each of the individual emails.....
This would be perfet if the "combined inbox" was a direct link on the home screen.

Thanks for that and let me know if you think that link is what you read last night......because if it is my search is over!

I "think" it is, but still waiting for a reply from my friend in Atlanta....will let you know.

so I put all 3 gmails into the regular email app...the regular email app doesn't sync but every 15 minutes, you can't use signatures, the background of the screen is grey versus white on the gmail app.

It's a trade off, and not really a good one...but it's something at least.

Yeah...when I tried the Eris (and took it back after two days) I couldn't stand the regular email app. Once used to Gmail it's tough to give up the labels, stars, etc. That's why the Android Gmail app is so nice, but it has current limitations as well...though I'm sure they'll be fixed. For me, it is simply a matter of non-scalable font size in in the Android Gmail app but the font is scalable in the regular email app. I still can't understand that, but I can't carry around a magnifying glass to read my email.

He uses two separate Gmail inboxes.

ugh...yeah well that would be just fine IF the sepearte inbox shortcuts actually told you which one has an unread message...which at this point they don't....here's to hoping for a new app to come along and change this!

thanks for the update.

I didn't realize the Gmail icon had a New Mail badge on it? The Eris didn't have that. I'm sure someone will come out with a solution for multiple accounts in one inbox you need. Like the stupid tiny fonts...too many people need these things.

I have never been on the fence so much about a phone before...almost ready to wait another month and what the next Droid will be? It should be here after Black Friday.

my complaint is that it does not have a new message badge. If it told me there were unread messages on the gmail icon I would be satisfied because you can make a shortcut for each inbox but without a new message badge this shortcut is worthless for people with multiple gmail accounts

Got it. Now I understand your dilemma as the one status bar icon isn't doing much for you if you have to check two inboxes each time you see it. The only other thing would be a distinctive notification sound for each mail account, which was possible on the Eris and surely is for the Droid, then you'd know which account to open. Not much, but better than nothing.

Not sure if this is applicable, but I believe the thread that discusses the number of concurrent gmail accounts (on Eris it is 1 according to post) and concurrent HTC email accounts (on Eris it is 8 according to post) is the following:

http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/16623-how-load-2nd-gmail-account-onto-eris.html

It is a pretty long series of posts, and the topic wanders around a bit, read through all of it, the applicable details are about halfway down.

Hope that helps.

Robb

p.s. For what it is worth, I've spent a while searching around for details on how to get my Eris to handle multiple Gmail accounts, but haven't found anyone who says it will work, and some disconcerting posts by folks who tried it on Droids only to have very bad results. Most folks seem to be able to use multiple email accounts via standard email app.

Hi,
Back to the original post, I use a BB for work where all communications come into the one inbox. (BBM, SMS, MMS, Updates, MSN, Google Talk, FB, gmail, hotmail, and MS Exchange). I'd realy like to have the same "One inbox" on my Android (G1). In the last 10 months, has anyone stumbled across such an app?

My lady has just bought a Sony X10 and that has something called TimeScape. I think that is the sort of thing I am looking for, but with more features and not ruined by Sony! (lol). One of the home screens does seem to show all text messages and emails in the order they arrive. Quite cool, but I guess it's sony propriatory software and I am not sure if it does everything like BB's inbox.

Many thanks
