Where the #%&! are all my TEXTS?!

not sure you will be able to get them back but we can check a few things and make sure it won't happen again. My guess (and this is a guess) is that you may have had delete old messages selected in the settings. I would check that first to make sure its not checked.

While in the all messages screen hit Menu/settings. The very first option is the only setting I see that may have caused this. If its checked then that's what did it. If not then I am not sure what it is.

Not sure if this would make a difference or not, but do you have a Task Killer installed? If so and its on auto kill maybe there is a setting that will delete old messages as well. I have never heard of that but its worth a shot if you are running one.

Yeah, that's the first thing I checked too. Definitely not the case.

And I do have TasKiller, but I haven't been using it for a few days now since I discovered Startup Cleaner 2.0 and wanted to test Android's battery-saving skills, so it's not running; even if it was, I had Messages ignored anyway.

::sigh::

Why do I always get the weird shit?! :(

Mine does this every time the messaging application does a force close. It deletes all the messages, even locked ones. I have not had that start up appp installed. If the application freezes, it forces close and deletes.

Since there is no deleted messages folder....anyone know how this can be stopped?

do you have handcent? i had this same problem. and it was getting really frustrating...well i called sprint and when i told the tech what was happening, he asked if i had handcent, well of course i did, and he said that he has heard about this before. so we had to reboot my phone to factory settings. so make sure if you call, you save all of your information before. things such as phone book. the pictures are saved to the sd card, so you dont loose those. but try that. i did it and now my texts are erasing.

I had this exact same problem, once or twice a day while texting using the stock messaging app it would crash and completely delete every text I had, this only started happening after I installed startup cleaner 2.0 after I uninstalled it hasn't happened once and its been almost a week now
Hm... I feel like it happened before I even discovered Startup Cleaner, though.

Also, it happened again yesterday while using Handcent, so obviously having Handcent doesn't appear to help things.

So. ****ing. Annoying.

Yes it is. I have literally lost my texts like 3 times since 7 am this morning. Just all gone. I may stop by the sprint store and see. Did you get anything settled at a Sprint repair store? Or you just downloaded handcent first?

I don't really want the bubble messaging! I like the default, but would like to keep it.

There are 3 different ways to display text messages in Handcent. You don't have to use bubble text. You can even customize the fonts and the back grounds...Its very customizable to your liking. Even separate notifications for each person that sends you texts.

Thanks, a co-worker just showed me that. I guess I just don't feel that I should have to have a different app to do that through - it shouldn't be force closing that much.

Nah, haven't had a chance to go to a repair store yet.

Two things I've also noticed about both the stock Messages app and Handcent is that 1) the notification volume doesn't adjust with the ringer volume, and 2) neither of them vibrate when they're supposed to.

I'll see what the Sprint repair people say, but if they can't help, I think I'll just develop a serious case of the ****its and do a hard reset.
