Gingerbread on the Droid X - October?

Dang man! Here I am thinking that the X is going to be the most awesome phone ever for a while and getting the brand new 2.2 and gonna kick butt...and now 3.0 is around the corner...I feel outdated already

It will still be the most awesome phone and once 3.0 comes along it is still going to be a top contender maybe not THE best im sure something else will be released but it will still be far from outdated

So do we think that the X will be getting 3.0? Apparently we will be getting 2.2 in August...have that for only 2 months and then jump to Gingerbread? Or is the X going to be one of the "cheap, mass market phones" that is forced to stay at 2.2?

Well given that Froyo was already officially released, and it is going to take Motorola at least two months to get a "Motorola Approved" Froyo version ready (they have to add their "touch" to it), there is a zero chance we will see Motorola release Gingerbread for the X in August.

Best case scenerio is that it only takes them 2 months to tweak it. Honestly however it will probably take much longer than that. Everyone expects Moto to come out with something even better by year end, so there will be less effort being poured into the X at that time.

I think in reality, we'll see a new phone release towards the end of the year with Froyo still on it. They will take 1-2 months to get Gingerbread released on the new phone, and then they might turn their efforts to getting Gingerbread on the Droid X. So I'd say it might be the end of the year or the first quarter of next year.

Just a guess however!

yeah well froyo was released what about a month or so ago? This is still as of now their top tier phone i would imagine they will want to get 2.2 out as soon as they can so they can start spending more time on other phones and the Droid 2 is supposed to launch with 2.2 so i would say the X should get it around that time also i would imagine

do you mean you hope it doesnt have problems with 2.2 when you get it?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah that is what I meant duh!! LOL

Well a lot of the time people upgrade there phone and more problems happen. My friend has the Droid Eris and he tried to upgrade it to the new 2.0 (I think that is what it is). Well it got all screwed up he told me once they put it on. So he went back to verizon and put the old 1.7 on it his phone again and all was fine. So I hope when I upgrade it does not happen the same way once I get the phone.
