Root Rooted my 5th Incredible tonight using this method.

I have successfully rooted 5 Incredibles as of today. Here is what I have been doing. Also, this is with the stock SanDisk that came with the phone. This was on a Dell Insprion E1505.

Side Note:
For some reason my laptop wasn't reading SD Cards since I did a fresh install 2 days ago. In that case, I had to install a Ricoh CardReader R5U230 Driver, so it could read the SD Card and Phone as Disk Drives.

1. Download this file and extract it to your desktop. http://goo.gl/mfhc
2. Move or copy the "sdk" folder to your "C:\"
3. Install HTC Sync completely.
4. Download this file and extract into the "sdk" folder from step 2.
a. These are the usb drivers for most operating systems.
5. Download "Greg's Dos Shell" here.
6. Remove the battery from your phone.
7. Put the battery back in and immediately hold the optical button and the power button.
8. Wait for your computer to completely recognize and install the drivers. It should be listed in your Device Manager as "Android Bootloader Interface". It may also say Android 1.0.
9. Now press the power button to bring you to the next white screen with options.
10. Once again, wait for the computer to completely recognize and install the drivers. Check your Device Manager and this time it should say "Android ADB Interface".

**Note** If ANY of the drivers are not recognized in the Device Manager, right click and select "update driver". Navigate to this folder: C:\sdk\usb_driver

Once all drivers are installed and recognized continue to step 11. If not, go back to step 6.

11. Press the volume down to highlight "recovery", and press the power button.
12. Finally, wait for the computer to completely recognize and install the drivers. If there are ANY drivers in the Device Manager not recognized, choose to update them as mentioned in the "Note" above.
13. Now, remove the SD card.
14. Remove the battery.
15. Run "Greg's Dos Shell"
16. Navigate to C:\sdk\tools
17. Type: adb shell
18. Wait for it to give you an error.
19. Put the battery back in, while holding the down volume button and the power button.
20. Wait 10 seconds.
21. Type "loop" in "Greg's Dos Shell", but DO NOT press enter yet.
22. Press the volume down and highlight "recovery".

**Note** These steps are critical!!! This was the exact timing that I could replicate each time with my computer. Read 23-25 a couple times so you understand the timing needed.

23. Press the power button and start counting one one-thousand (Start with 1 as you press the power button) two one-thousand, three one-thousand... etc.
24. As you hit 8 one-thousand, immediately press in the SD Card and continue counting...
25. As you get to 10 one-thousand, press enter on "Greg's Dos Shell" to start the "loop" bat.
26. It may take 5-10 seconds and you should start seeing "error: device not found" to "exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -"
27. Once you see this, hold the CTRL button and press "c". It will ask if you want to stop, press Y for yes.
28. If this does not work, go back to step 13 and repeat, repeat, repeat.
29. Fast forward to 5:00 minutes into this video.
30. Follow the rest as instructed.

3) Tada! ADB in recovery

Seriously, these posts are getting old. No one cares that you got it. Congrats, but unless you have something that doesn't require luck, don't post it.

Cortland thanks for the info...I agree with duck...we are getting hit with recycled info...I wont lie..I did the same thing myself and posted info I thought would help others.

But seeing these phones are so picky in terms of what will work we need any sure fire method thats outside of what we already know. I appreciate your contribution...but I am at the point. I am tired of trying....I did everything except the pny option and using black magic lol.

Until I finally get a method to work on "my" phone I will keep going to my balcony at night and sing "someday my root will come"

Sure, most of the steps are the same. However, I haven't seen one post that lists using a different command prompt... and for me.. it has worked on multiple phones. Nobody said you have to do this. I'm offering suggestions and what worked for me. If these posts are getting old, then why do you continue to read them? Just to be an a$$?

No one cares to read the negative posts like this one, and this one. If you're upset because you can't root, it's something you're doing wrong, not us. I've had no problem rooting.

For your problem in this post, try reading my side not at the top, it may just help you. I had that same problem and fixed it.

Overnight your phone and I'll overnight it back, rooted.

Right click on that yellow ! and uninstall the driver. Then, choose to install or update the driver and browse to the C:\sdk\usb_driver folder.

there was a .ini file in your instructions but no folder in the sdk folder at all. unless i missed a step

I'm not sure what you're asking.. I think you're talking about the usb_driver folder? This is where you can download the drivers..

I noticed you were using a different command prompt. That may be the key to your success. it could be communicating with the phone in a different manner. If so...it would be nice if someone could create a program using that prompt interface and the files needed to auto root the phone in an easier fashion.
I might try that prompt tonight to see what happens.

yeah I was an idiot and forgot to unpack the .rar file but regardless my compuer doesn't like that driver. I am going to try to use my work computer later. Thanks for the help.

As I was rapidly pressing my sd card in and out, my dog needed needed water, so I went to go get her some. When I came back, BAM THERE IT WAS!!! ZOMG!

Anyway, it was sheer luck that I got it.

As I was rapidly pressing my sd card in and out, my dog needed needed water, so I went to go get her some. When I came back, BAM THERE IT WAS!!! ZOMG!

Anyway, it was sheer luck that I got it.
