Yahoo Mail App Available

So, Yahoo released its own mail and messenger apps today. I tried it out for about 5 minutes. It seems like a slimmer version of their Yahoo Go! that they used to have for Blackberry.

So far, not impressed. But at least its a step in the right direction for them. They should just allow mail setup using IMAP or convert to exchange servers. That way Yahoo folks can have their calendars and contacts all synced up.

I'm glad they finally released an official Yahoo Messenger app. I got sick of eBuddy not telling me when my friends were idle and tired of meebo draining my battery completely in 4 hours.

Everything seems to be working pretty good with it.

I have the mail app as well, it's alright. I don't really use Yahoo mail so it's not really a big deal.

I still want a visual notification in the notification bar just not the sound. I like that it's push and I can use it with WiFi. Perhaps there will be more options with an update...

I am looking for the same thing, so I uninstalled and went back to K-9.

I can see my wife throwing my phone thru a window at 3 am because the email is making noise. No thank you.

Another benefit is that yahoo mail now works over wi-fi

My yahoo works over wifi, you can't use the default settings in the phone though, set it up using the setting for another client from their help section and it will work just fine.

ima try this app though. If the BB version of their software wasnt so bloated and huge I would of liked it.

I kind of like the apps and they don't seem as bloated as typical yahoo ware, no ads here and if the messenger doesnt crush the battery bye bye ebuddy and I'll be happy.

Noticed its not showing photo's though that the same for everyone?

I have Yahoo plus, so no ads for me either. I removed it because it doesn't appear to be "push". In fact, when I looked this morning, the HTC app said I had 9 messages waiting, and the Yahoo one said 8 until I opened it. So no real advantage of using the Yahoo app at this point other than working over wifi.

If you have your email sorted into folders when delivered, the app gives you access to them and not just your in box. You can also mark items as spam. These are two big positives for the Yahoo app, IMO.

Even with Yahoo plus, I've never been able to get the HTC app to delete items from Yahoo. The app does this for me.

I prefer the Yahoo app over the HTC app.

While their recent update is better than the original release, I am still getting forced closes when I try to delete the "Outbox". I also have been told that some people have been getting repeat emails from me since I loaded this app.

I look forward to future releases that are more stable, but for now, back to K-9.

I too have a sneaking suspicion that this app is raping my battery slowly and painfully. I do have 20+ folders in my Yahoo plus account, but since i'm by a PC all day at work, i dont "need" the folders to be accessible through my phone, i just need to be able to send and receive email, and i can move them to folders when i get to a PC. The important thing is receiving emails, and I think the stock email app is fine for that purpose. I thought i would like it, and wanted to like it, but i realized i put all those folders there for a reason, to move emails there without deleting them, so i dont really need those folders and if i did, i can go via the web on the phone for that once in a blue moon scenario where i need to grab a saved email immedaitely.

Anyway, thanks yahoo, thank you for caring, and thank you for acknowledging that an iPhone is not the only phone out there, but i'll try the app again in 12 months. Great job for giving it a go. It was a great first release, i hope many updates are in the pike .
ps. "am i talking to an invisible yahoo man? "
