Our Very Own Phandroid Review is up! Woohoo!

"The Droid X ships with Android 2.1 and should receive an upgrade to Android 2.2 by the end of summer 2010. It runs a refined version of Motorola BLUR that is drastically improved; Motorola hasn’t actually committed to calling it Motorola BLUR, probably because many consumers have come to find BLUR annoying rather than helpful."

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Moto BLUR, No Moto BLUR... Motorola has said that it does not use Moto BLUR, however some reviewers have stated that there is a "light" version of BLUR on the phone. It appears to be "Moto BLUR-esque tweaks to Android 2.1", so there is definitely something as it is not stock Android.

I really really liked this review. It took some serious time to show us around the phone and tell us what makes it stand out. Great work Rob.

That said, I think the boot loader issue needs to be mentioned at the very least. If you can't figure out whether or not it's actually encrypted, and Motorola/Verizon won't tell you, then just say that. This is a very important issue though, and ignoring it is not a good approach.

I will say this....For some reason, ppl are forgetting that this is a phone.....something I gave Engadget fits over for leaving it out of the review.

Hey, gotta be fair right?

Ppl....this isnt a complete review either.....

Exactly!!
I have been searching for a video showing this PHONE making a CALL.

I may switch to the X from my Inc if the phone is better (call quality, sound, loudness, signal strength etc..)
Also, can I call a contact by spelling the name on the dial pad like the DINC?
I am also interested in the battery life when working the phone as a business tool (calls and emails). Coming from a BB, I am really disappointed in the overall Android OS battery performance.

A great review of multimedia device. Not a great review of a smartphone! Considering that the biggest complaints about the iPhone 4 and the HTC Droid Incredible have been the signal and call quality, you would think that the reviewers would take a few minutes to make a phone call and check the quality. Also, for many people their cellphone/smartphone is their only phone. as they are getting rid of landlines or just not getting landlines. I plan on buying the Droid X out of contract, so I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a smartphone only to find out I can't use it to make a simple phone call.

Call quality and talk time are arguably the X's best features. If you guys can't find a review that discusses call quality, then you must not have read the PhoneArena one yet. Here's the link to the last page of the review, it talks about the calling aspect of this "superphone". I suggest you read the entire review as it is another good one:

With all due respect, to the Phone Arena video reviewer, his monotone cadence reminds me of the evo vs iphone phonemart cartoon. I can't stop watching that.

Haha nice. That video is a classic, too bad the guy is losing his job at Best Buy over it.

The phonearena video review isn't that great, but the writtten review and gallery are. Phandroid's videos are better.
