Increasing EVO's audio output volume non-root?

Does anyone feel that EVO's media audio output volume is low? I am a former iPhone user and IMO there is a noticeable difference in the overall output db level compared to iPhone only when playing audio files like mp3 and .wav. Does anyone know if there is a way to boost the audio output volume for non rooted users? Is there an app that could help?

I'm having a similar issue with horrible audio quality and low volume coming from the headphone jack. I emailed HTC about the bad quality, and their response was: your mp3's are too high bitrate, you need to lower the quality of the mp3's to get better quality sound.

Yeah, that doesnt sound right. My $20 mp3 player from 5 years ago, can play 320kb mp3's at perfect quality. This evo when connected to my surround sound system sounds like a telephone when playing mp3s. So they told me to LOWER the bitrate of the mp3s to get better sound...

^ well that doesn't sound right at all.
Most likely you got an email response from a complete
moron. Hopefully all of them aren't that stupid.

Not sure why the audio output is so bad. I've tried searching
the googles for info about the dac and opamp but haven't
found any real info.

Some generations of the iphone used better dacs and amps
than others, but overally I thought the 3g I had sounded pretty
decent.

Sad to suggest this, but a mini headphone amp might be your
best bet when doing any major listening.

Cheap ones can be had. The Fiio E5 gets decent reviews from
all but the audiophiles. I haven't tried it out yet, but I will be getting
one from amazon soon. They sell for less than 20 and they're very
small.

Thanks for the response and suggestion,..but I'm not sure I want an extra peripheral attached to my phone as I do most of my listening at work and I like to stay as slimline as possible. I guess I'll more than likely end up going with one of the volume hacks the guys over at xda are working on. Going the volume hack method will require me to root (something I was trying to hold out as long as possible on doing) but I need more volume. :)

Here are a few of the threads over at xda if anyone is interested.
