I tried the free version of SlideIt and was not impressed. It didn't seem to be as good at predicting my words. I like both Shapewriter and Swype much better. Shapewriter is gone, so I would do like carynis1doll suggests and sign up for Swype at their website.
It's not anywhere as good as Swype, let me say that right out of the gate. When I first came to android swype wasn't available and I had been using it on my Omnia. SlideIt was available and I used it for a while on the Eris until Swype became available. The paid version works better than the free trial. I had no major issues with it, but word prediction was pretty bad at first. It got better as I used it, but then Swype did the same thing to me, it got better as I used it so I was expecting it. If you can't get into the beta it's better than not having a swiping keyboard IMHO.
When I checked the swypeinc.com website, it showed the beta as closed and didn't allow me to sign up. Could they have closed the beta in the last couple of hours? pkopalek or carynis1doll, can you provide the link you used to get to the beta?
I never got my Swype confirmation e-mail but I tried shaprewriter, but found it worked pretty well as just a keyboard but found swiping far less accurate than I was expecting. I since moved to the Moto Droid X keyboard and like it better than the default eris keyboard.

swype is pissing me off lately. I hate having to reinstall a new beta everytime it runs out, then have it relearn all my words and stuff. I want to pay for this damn program, I wish they would just sell us a copy and have updates in the market.
