Root How do you just overclock?

How do you overclock Droid (rooted)? How do you confirm or examine clock speed?

First you have to have a kernel installed that supports overclocking.

Second you should have a program like setcpu to monitor and set clock speeds.

It's all in experimentation to find the best kernel for you in both stability and speed.

That's true for the most part, not everyone will be able to handle 1.2ghz kernels though. You don't have to wipe when installing a new kernel but you will want to backup before starting to try new ones.

SetCPU... In 'about' section you can change theme, but then it says 'restart to take effect'. It should give you a way to do that.

yeah, just exit out and go back in it...not that complicated lol. The rule of thumb, in my opinion, is to not go as high as you CAN, but as low as you can tolerate. This will result in the phone not getting very hot. BUT you can set profiles, regardless of what kernel, to specify how fast you want your CPU to be clocked to at certain battery percentages, temperatures of CPU (and battery temp), and "plugged-in". Btw, if you DO use profiles, the "priority" slider at the bottom may confuse you; don't let it, it is just basically a 1-100 list of profiles to use...(you can have 100 profiles set if you honestly wanted to...useless, but you can)

Yeah, you get addicted fast lol...I thought I'd stick with ONE rom the whole time...I was wrong. I have flashed just about every ROM that's been published lol. Have fun!

to get back to actually using SetCPU. What does the 'ondemand' choice actually do? I would think it would kick up the speed when demand is heavy.

That is exactly what it does... It will ramp up the speed between the low setting you pick and the high setting you pick as needed...

Did you flash BB.4? That comes with a kernel, which is 800mhz. Could be what you're seeing. If not maybe another kernel you had installed?
