universal remote app

now that would be cool to have.

Yes.. the new android phones dont have an IR led to control TV and similar devices.

it would be a nice device to have. If a company can develop a device with bluetooth and IR signal abilities. Then any bluetooth device can send commands to it; then the device will then send IR commands to the devices (TV, DVD, TIVO, ... etc) you have.

I think some network-attached Blu Ray players (and other gadgets, like the Logitech Squeezebox line of music streamers) can be controlled with an iPhone/iPod/iPad via the intarwebs or teh wifis or something like that.

No reason why we wouldn't see a similar app for Android, but there can be no universal remote that would control all of your devices without IR and/or RF.

This article claims to also use the RedEye mini with an app called IRemote:

How to turn your Android smart phones into a Universal remote control.

RemoteDroid alone has saved me some 80 clams on a Logitech mini keyboard/mouse that I was looking at to control my HTPC... now I'm also considering MultiRemote - Android app on AppBrain

I must be doing something wrong because that IRemote app just isn't coming up - but - combine all that kiss all of the aftermarket remotes and gizmos buh bye.

In any case -
