Help Help with "task-killing" applications.

I got my Droid Eris yesterday and today, its first full cycle, the battery died after six hours. I've thus turned to using one of these applications to help extend the battery life.

First off, what's the best "task-killing" application to use? Preferably one that's free.

I am looking for an application that automatically takes care of the work without me having to manually kill all of the applications each time.

I have both Advanced Task Killer and Automatic Task Killer installed. for Automatic Task Killer, how exactly do I configure it? Do I select all of the applications or just some? If just some, which ones should I select?

Task killer is a bad idea. Remove it and let android learn to manage your device. Run the battery down until it is almost dead. Turn it off then back on and charge with the plug in charger overnight. do this twice. I get 2 days with moderate use now.

How long were you getting on your first few charges?

About 8 hours. I have turned off weather autoupdate did the sms fix and keep wireless, gps and bluetooth turned off unless I need it.

Advanced Task killer was killing my battery - I have a couple posts about it because I was going insane haha.

After removing it and running with no task killer my battery life has been fantastic (if I'm not streaming video). Even streaming music from Pandora my battery life still is rocking.

I'm also wondering about this. I'm using the Advanced Task Killer I believe. Now I know in it's default mode it is running at all times (I see it in the Notification Bar). But when I go to kill all selected apps, it is included as one of them. So I think I'm killing ATK as well (the icon goes off the Notification Bar).

I'm wondering, if you don't use an app like this, how do you actually close programs??? I'm coming from WinMobile where I was surprised that all apps stayed running when you clicked the close button. So I had to get an app that would actually exit apps. But at least a lot of apps actually had an 'Exit' command in their menus.

- How do you effectively 'close' apps when done using them with Android???

My phone seems to launch a ton of apps that I don't even use when I start up (like Footprints, etc.). I'm not only concerned about battery life (though that is pretty major), but those apps also eat up all the RAM slowing the phone down! It's just not an efficient setup.

- And if you have a lot of apps running, how do you quickly switch to the one you want to use (or back and forth for that matter)?
