Doe samsung fascinate use gorilla glass ?

I guess the subject sez it all; does anyone know if the fascinate use gorilla glass or if it scratch/break easily ?

From what I can understand the process of making a super amoled screen would be inhibitory to them including gorilla glass. With super amoled, they manufactured it so the sensor are in the surface of the screen. I think having a gorilla glass wouldn't work.

that's an equally good questionin terms of fragility. I know that their new manufacturing process allows them to make the screen more thing, I have no idea about fragility though. With people talking about how plasticy the SGS feels, I hope the screen isn't fragile too.

I can live with a plastic feel; but not sure I can live with a screen that scratches or cracks easily. Any phone will break or scratch if you drop it high enough or rub it very hard with sharp metal object but I've have heard (no first hand experience) that the droid has been scratch resistant and the galaxy s has routinely shattered easily (this phone has been out in asia and europe for a bit but I do not know how accurate the information I have 'heard' or 'read' is hence the question)

One of the reviews from Asia indicated they used tempored glass for the front so it is not too soft. The biggest complaint from Asia/Europe has been issues with GPS and lock ups from the phone. GPS is said to be fixable in firmware; and a new firmware is said to improve the lockup but not totally fix.

I read about 6 or 7 different sites with users reviews to cross check things. There are also a couple of uK reviews; one gal complained quite a bit about the gps but said samsung had told her after her review that they are working on a firmware fix.

Mixed on it so far from reviews; seems like the droid x will be more durable and a better phone; while this will be a better media device (movies/games). Hard to judge things like reception and speakers. Size wise they seem nearly the same (droid x has a bit more screen but this one has a bit more bazel; this one wins in weight category and the sdhc can be swapped without removal of hte battery); droid is probably more durable and glass more scratch resistant but the pace of technology is rapidly increasing so i suspect both will be significantly obsolete in 12 to 24 months.

Different phones, can't really compare them that accurately. The VZW version is CDMA, those were GSM and different bands than used in the USA. The internals will be tweaked along with the radios, so we will have to see when the Epic and Fascinate get released and reviewed. Even if you could place some blame on the hardware here, or software, our versions are coming a good month or two later. Samsung could easily iron out anything that was reported in Asia and Europe for these phones.

I use to have an Alias, and I loved that phone. Actually, was my favorite phone before picking up an Android phone. So Samsung isn't bad with call quality by default.

On build quality, from the post above, none have said its bad. They just say its more plastic than the X, not that it WILL suffer from it. Time will tell there. Also, judging by the pictures at Androidcentral, the X has some size on it in terms of tallness, there may not be a full inch difference, but I wouldn't call them nearly the same.

Exactly. Many things are different on this version (and all US Versions). The EU version has a front hardware (iphone-like) button for example, that none of the US versions have. SO there wil be different hardware, different firmware, and somewhat different software (based on the carrier). I wouldn't worry about those issues here ..

I think the phone did great on the scratch test considering the Korean guy put it through a highly unrealistic test. The guy took a screw to it and didn't even leave a mark. He had to use a box knife to scratch it. I don't think I will be keeping any open box cutters in my pocket.

Well actually, I saw plenty of scratches throughout the test way before he went to the box cutter. The back was all scratched up and the front had a few small scratches. Still pretty impressive. Unfortunately, we don't know if the same materials were used in these phones. Here's hoping!

"Gorilla glass" is only a branded name for a specific mix of glass from Corning. It seems to have become synonymous with "the only type of glass that won't scratch."

The reality is that there are many types and mixtures of glass with varying levels of hardness. I have been eminently impressed with the glass on my iPhone 3GS, which is not Gorilla Glass, and if you look at some of the scratch tests from the 3GS, they confirm that it is pretty tough.

Corning makes a great product, undoubtedly. Just make sure you don't write off all other glass types as inferior or prone to scratching.

The Mesmorize uses Gorilla Glass and due to the fact they are both the SCHi500 I would assume the Fascinate also uses it. It is possible to have an SuperAmoled with Gorilla Glass despite what some others may claim. I took a key to the store demo model of the Mesmerize and even pushing really hard I couldnt get it to scratch. Disclaimer: individual results may vary...

Yes, it is gorilla glass, and no it doesn't scratch or break easily. I sat down in my car one day and my phone got hooked on the side of my seat while i was sitting down, and sling shotted my phone off of my belt clip across the parking lot like 6 feet over, and not scratch on anything but the case and you could tell the screen had actually scraped the concrete as there were scratch marks in the smudges, but the screen itself was still perfect.
