Google Voice costing more?

Hello all,

I noticed that everytime I receive a text via Google Voice, I also receive a duplicate one from my regular SMS service as well. I disabled the notifications via SMS features on both the app on my phone and on my Google Voice settings page, but I am still receiving the dupes... My text bill for Verizon is getting larger and larger.. I was wondering if anybody has a solution to this?

If you've turned off all SMS notifications under Settings > Voicemail and Text then you shouldn't be getting anything sent to your regular number. I've got all of my notifications set to go to my email and get texts that way all of the time with no duplicates.

One option is the call Verizon and get them to block all incoming SMS until you figure out what the problem is. AT&T will do that, so I'm assuming Verizon will too.

You have two choices. Do nothing and incur cost. Upgrade to unlimited text with verizon.
I'd add:
3. Make sure you actually disabled all SMS notifications and forwarding.

From what I've seen, people don't seem to catch all the toggles.

Forwarding seems to be most frequently overlooked. In the GV site via your PC go to Settings->Phones then hit the Edit button for all SMS-capable phones. Uncheck "Receive text messages on this phone (mobile phones only)" to disable SMS forwarding.

Ah thanks Takeshi. the Settings->Phone->Edit did the trick. Its weird how you have to disable 3 different options just to make it stop, I would even go as far to say it was facebook-ish at how difficult it was to disable the option.
Well, to be fair, the option I mentioned was for SMS forwarding. The other check boxes are for voicemail notifications. Yes, the forwarding and notifications come via SMS but they're not the same thing.

I hate to sound like an asshat but it boils down to reading. Or, in my case, I always go through all the options whether they sound useful or not just so I understand them.

I am struggling w/ moving family to Android. The old 700P just can't cut it in the modern world... The fresh jesus phone on Verizon rumors don't help either...

I am Googled up the wazoo, GMail, Calendar,, etc.. but most important, Google Voice. I am trying to see if one can use it well on Android as I am about to push the button on 2 Droid 2's.

1. Can GV interact w/ other apps well like Handcent?

2. How about w/ Swype? Ideally I could use Handcent, inputting w/ Swype to text through GV!!

3. Do you use GV app or through browser and what is the difference, especially in terms of interaction w/ other apps, as above?

4. On D2 anyone have the annoying GV voicemail can't play through handset, only speaker?

5. Generally, how has GV been for you on Android?

Many thanks and may all your apps play nicely...!

1. The text portion will not interact with another text application. Though it will give you an option if you were to text someone which program to use if you didn't set a default.

2. Swype will work in GV to text.

3. You use the GV app or the intergration within the phone to make calls. If you make a call you can have GV set up to make all calls out with your GV number or make it ask every time. Theres a few programs which can automate things for you on which number to dial out when calling certain contacts (Voice Choice and Voice + )

4. Can't answer since I don't have a D2.

5. It's been great. I have all work related and anything else call my GV number and only give out my mobile number to friends and family. So I can keep things separated, but all on one device.
