[Theory] Battery % Drop

i posted this in a thread but thought i post it for all to see just so you can try it

ive tested this multiple times. the drop to 93% is caused (imo) by leaving it on the charger. last couple nights i took it off the charger right when it was done charging then restarted the phone. 99% in the morning, and does NOT drop to 93% right away, takes a few hours of moderate use. if i leave the charger on and dont restart the phone. 93% in the morning

seems like the os is reading the % wrong

not 100% sure but seems to work for me. with moderate use it wont drop to below 90% for quite a few hours and seems to stay at exactly 100% for an hour or so

Yeah, this was mentioned in a pretty big battery thread a few weeks ago. The Evo is essentially charging to 100% and opening up the charging circuit until the device drops to ~90% or so. You wont see this of course, as the charge indicator will always say 100%. What I do when I wake up is immediately take it off the charger, open up a web page or two and let it drop its obligatory ~5% and then plug it back in before I take a shower to top off the remaining 5%. No more battery drop when I leave the house!

No one should. Also, your phone is not really at 99%. At that rate of usage it would last for weeks.

in standby it should last for weeks. i also said i didnt use it for that 3 hours. started using it after some internet usage for about 10 mins it dropped a couple percent(which is normal, when you use the phone)

also in my original post. i said it seemed like the os is reading the battery wrong. never have i said this will fix how long the battery lasts. this "fix" just seems to trick the phone to read the battery % more accurately. instead of dropping to below 90% after a few mins of usage

edit : 4 1/2 hours since unplugged and its at 94%(started using it).

in no way does this make the battery last longer.

just trying to help figure out why the phone drops in %. i "think" it has to be how the phone reads the battery, hence the [Theory]

Have the Hero waiting for the Evo. Been off the charger for 4 hours, many emails and at 99%. This will change when I start using the phone more in the day, pandora and playing on the phone.

Taking the phone off the charger let it drop to 98-96% is what I did except for 2 nights in a row let it charge to 100% and unplugged it and let it drop and re plug it in..Did it 5 times in a row each night for 2 nights and the battery really came to life after that, After the 5th plug in I let it charge all night. Amazing!!!

Well my phone is fine when I dont use it. I can have it for a day if I dont use it. But once I play a game or use the internet the phone drastically drops. I dont know what to do! I tried the htc method of turning off the phone and plugging the charger in until green then unplug and repeat but i never get to the green light! Can anyone suggest why I cant get to a full charge Ive done the cycle for about an hour and it never gets to green!

Best thing you can do is get one of these:

Amazon.com: Seidio Multi-Function Battery Charger for Use with HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, Droid Eris and Touch Pro 2: Cell Phones & Service

If you charge the battery out of the phone it stays at 100% for a long time and the battery lasts alot longer, it's not a placebo. I easily get 20 hours of moderate/heavy in spurts type of use out of the phone when I charge the batteries using this charger whereas i'm lucky to get 12 when I charge the battery in the phone overnight. Plus it's really nice to not have to plug the phone in to charge it, as long as you have a spare battery you can use the phone infinitely without ever having to worry about your battery or plugging the phone in.

Best investment I have made for the EVO! Also the charger has trays that snap in so I assume you will be able to just buy the tray when you upgrade phones in the future instead of having to buy a whole new charger.

Good Luck.

No smartphone will last for weeks on standby, except maybe some super-light phones running airplane mode NEVER being turned on not using wifi/bluetooth/etc. And even then I doubt it.

Uh, no, standby is just being on, not airplane mode. You don't have to have any data, but it has to be able to receive calls. Also keep in mind that you can't rate it on the size of the battery. The EVO most assuredly does not use the exact same amount as a Touch Diamond.

Nice try though.

5+ days of standby on HTC EVO with Seidio 1750mAh battery

5 days on standby with wifi and background data. if i didnt have to use my phone id test it with wifi off. but im sure you could easily double that with no data. and i know its the 1750mah but ive seen tests where it doesnt show much if any better then the stock battery
