Battery Iss-ues Continue: a power user

First, I am definitely a power user (tons of email, internet, texting, reading etc) so I know battery life might be harsh due to Android & EVO's heavy OS and apps and widgets (though even coming from a Treo 700wx, I didn't think this harsh)... yet I don't get a full days charge starting 7:30 I usually get the typical overnight charge dip from 100 to 90 in no time. I have not tried the on/off orange/green light battery calibration method YET (no time).

No wifi, location (though some GPS), 4g, app killers etc.

Just like many here I would like to not have to worry about this issue again (an OTA update/fix from Sprint/HTC would be optimal), and have tried almost every tip out there, to mostly poor results (maybe due to my usage). any thing I am missing?

A few battery (newbish) questions...

1) Since the update, I have been unable to shut off GoogleTalk and have it stay off. Granted, I use Google (gmail etc.) all the time, but it is not necessary for syncing mail.... what gives?

2) With the GSM (auto PRL) > CDMA (auto PRL) fix...

It stays CDMA auto (PRL) on the initial screen after using "Network" app, but after I go to Menu>Select Radio Band> Force Close> Phone info... it always remains GSM auto (PRL) and have to change it, but still doesn't stick....?

3) Google Voice is also always relogging on. QIk too.

4) Still torn about an App Killer... never used one... but with so many apps just seemingly blabbering, how could they not be suckin' juice from my Evo?

5) Shouldn't we be able to use all of the capabilities of our phones? I mean yeah if I drive a Ferrari 100mph, I don't expect good gas mileage, but If I want I can pay for more gas, and use all the capabilities of my super-duper car, I can!!!! ... with battery life we are tied down. Hopefully the battery tech will catch up or there will be a fix from sprint/htc or maybe Froyo will remedy this.

I do. I use System Panel Lite and Running Services to currently Kill Rogue apps.

But does CPU/memory usage necessarily translate into battery usage?

cpu does for sure. what i do is when i first boot phone up i go straight to systempanel and kill several things, but only the ones i know wont start themselves right back up again. those you either need to uninstall or just live with. there are several that when i kill they stay killed. seems to help some, can consistently get 6 to 8 hours up tim (13.5 to 15 awake) on my dinky 1300 mah

Try the app "Startup Auditor" it lets you stop applications from booting up when you turn on your phone and it also lets you stop applications from opening up on their own during normal use (like qik, the sprint apps, etc). Just don't stop Google Talk Service. It says Google Talk but it is what syncs the Gmail app.

I stopped all the Sprint apps and other apps like Qik and Voice Dialer, News, etc that seem to pop up out of no where.

Also make sure you change the settings in Google Talk and Google Voice so that it doesn't automatically sign in.

I am a pretty heavy user too, and combining Startup Auditor with System Panel Lite seems to have really helped. I also did the battery calibration, not sure if it did much though, but it can't hurt to sit down and take 10 minutes to do it.

I, like you, tried every battery fix and nothing works to fix the specific problem of the battery dropping from 100 to 80 percent in the first 20 or 30 mins. The only thing that works is the power calibration, but that's WAY to annoying to do on a regular basis. What I'm trying to figure out is, is it a phone hardware problem, a battery problem, or a software problem? I KNOW the phone can have excellent battery thru the power calibration trick which just annoys me when it can't normally.

Yeah ... After I get up on my way tothe shower, I'll power off the phone and let it top-off ... But there's no way that standard battery will get me through the morning (6hrs) ... I even bought an extended battery (1750mAh) and that one is sadly performing about the same or just a little better... This is the 4th HTC I've had (6700,6800, 6850) and none of the "delivered" batteries have given me the performance - always bought the biggest extended battery I could find for them and that had taken care of me. May try out that new one from 3500mAh one ...

And today - as a non-work one I've become one of thoes that we've been reading about - 15 hrs up time ... one charge ... but like I said, it's been a non-work day ;-)

How often does the power calibration need to be done?

The new batteries should not be allowed to discharge entirely. They are most efficient when kept near full.

Many people say that fully charging, pulling off of charger for a few minutes and recharging will improve efficiency. My experiments show this gives only marginal improvement.
