Help Strange Hardware Sound - Anyone Else?

If I tap on the back top (above the camera) I get this weird "loose" sound. Not like something is moving around freely, more like something isn't secured down correctly.

I'm wondering if I am the only one with this issue? Or if this is common.

Between this sound and the slight leakage problem, that should be enough to justify a replacement.

I get something like that. There's a small gap between the phone's battery and the back cover right below the HTC logo. I can hear the sound when the phone's to me ear and I press on that section. I was thinking of putting a thin piece of felt on the inside back of the cover.

That might solve the trick. I was thinking it could be the back cover as well. I haven't really investigated.

Its a good thought Thelber and PuRock, but if we are all on the same page as far as the specific noise being made, my Evo makes the mystery noise with the back cover off and battery removed (or turned on with battery seated). I'm on the waiting list for an exchange unit, so I've been tapping and shaking the phone like crazy to try to make the noise. Its really impossible to know what it is without gutting the thing.

I have the blown out earpiece speaker noise, and it occured to me maybe the earpiece on high volume causes the similar hardware reverberation within the phone during calls? Or it could be entirely unrelated who knows.

(Note: Hardware 002 phone with Novatek screen)

Yep your right. Just took off my battery cover and I tapped above the camera and the noise is still there. Are you only having the noise when on the phone. Cause I have the strange reverberation just from tapping on it. So the felt idea wouldn't work.

Have no idea what it could be. But I will be returning this one shortly.

The blown out speaker/reverberation and the rattling noise from tapping on the phone above the camera are entirely unrelated issues, I was just trying to draw a far-fetched, but maybe possible connection between them.

More than likely, when we are tapping on the phone right in that spot we are probably hearing/feeling the vibration motor rattle or something relatively normal like that.

I wouldn't return your phone just for this phantom rattle noise. Mine for example has some moderate to severe flash-lighting on the screen from the lit up buttons, and some mild light leak out the bottom of the bezel. Plus the aforementioned blown out earpiece noise on loud calls. Also my haptic feedback is poor, it only reacts to like every 4th letter I type. Some might think I'm picky (that means you silly Best Buy associate that helped me get an exchange order started), but I'm just trying to get 90-100% satisfaction rather than 70-80% with my current Evo.

Maybe you could go into Sprint and tap on their floor display phones to see if they make the same noise. :D Be prepared for some strange looks from the sales associates.

If it was just the rattling noise I would keep the phone, but like you I also have light leakage growing farther and farther up the left side as well as the usual below the buttons. I'd rather try my luck out with a new one and cross my finger.

Like you I also have to go back to Best Buy. They are pretty good about exchanges.
