So I'm 99% sure I'll be getting the Droid X, it will also be my first android device. Since I'm pretty new to this and I'm seeing a lot of preorder stuff for best buy, I'm wondering if I can just walk into a verizon store (or best buy, wal-mart, etc.) and pick up the phone on day one? I realize I may incur a pesky rebate send for, but I'm just wondering about availability.

Also, since thing is supposed to have 7 home screens, will it also have the pinch to zoom feature like HTC sense where it zooms out and you can see all 7 screens and select one, or will I be stuck scrolling around through the screens?

Thanks!

from a general consensus that i picked up looking through these threads, You will be able to just walk into a verizon store and get one.

And pinch to zoom i think with homescreen replacements its possible. But the way that the video reviews look like, it looks like you can choose which homescreen to go to by pressing one of those button looking things that show up when you switch from one screen to another

One Verizon store put me on a list for the first day shipping order. He said he will call me when they get the phones, and hold it until closing that day. Another store (much larger) said do not have any such lists, but that they will have enough to supply the first day demand. He said that they will definitely have a line outside before store opening, and that they should have enough for the day, but to be guaranteed one you should get there early. He said that once the release day is over, it will be a while until the next shipment so its best to go on the first day. Every store is different. I would recommend calling all the stores in your area, or maybe paying them a visit.

As for the home screens, the X has that feature where a little box pops up when you change screens and you can tap the corresponding tab to jump to the proper screen.

I was told by my local store they would have plenty. And I sure hope so since if the phone does not land early I am on vacation when it hits and will not be back until that Sunday. Meaning I can not go to the store until Monday morning. But they even told me they would have plenty for then. Not sure and I do not want to buy it while gone since I live in a state without sales tax and the state I will be in charges tax on the full retail amount of the phone.

My store told me that they expect plenty available too. She said that they do not expect the same ordering delays as experienced with the Incredible. She also said the feel is great, and the software is the same as the Incredible.

I know. I know. It's not. She lost credibility with me there. ;)

The person I talked with screwed up as well. They said the X comes with a dual core processor. Which I corrected very quickly on them. But they did seem annoyed about me doing so.

Anyone expecting any huge lines on the day of release?? ... My local VZW store opens at 9am, I am wondering if I can just stroll in at 9am or if I should be planning on getting there at 5am to ensure I am first in line.

I envision this thing probably selling out on the first day (towards the end of the day), but not iPhone4 like where people were on line for ~9 hrs in some places.

The odds of seeing a line anywhere near what apple gets is next to none. And that is becuase Android is across all carriers so not everyone must crush one carrier. Android phones come out every few months there is another higher end handset. And since Apple only releases once a year that increases the crunch as well.

I hope the guy I talked with is right about availabitlty but I think you might be right. But we will not know until it gets here really. And not selling out does not look good in the blogs. So I am sure they want to sell out even if they get stock back in a few days later.

Yeah I'm with you. I will definitely be at the VZW store early in the morning on the 15th though.

Where are you going on vacation? If it's not out of the country may I suggest researching the local VZW stores of your destination before you depart? :D

I am in So Oregon and going to So Cal. The problem is that buying the phone on vacation will cost me almost an extra $100 since I will be getting 2. CA has a lovely law that makes tax charged on the full retail amount of the phone and I live in a state with no sales tax.

For those wondering that is the statute.

I will be checking with my local stores before leaving and hoping they might just have them avail. But I doubt it. And I do not have a Best Buy close so that is out.

Unless money is no object, you'd be crazy to pay the extra $100 to the State of California for something you could buy cheaper at home when you return.

Just sayin'

I will not due it unless it looks like the supply is very short. I will be talking with a person at my local Verizon store on release day to get an idea of stock. I am a new customer so he wants me to sign up and it is 2 lines both with Droid X's. I do not want to pay any more than I have to. But at the sametime I do not want to have to wait 2 months for my new phones either. Since I am ready to get rid of AT&T.

I'll make you a fictitious bet (that $100 you were thinking of giving to Arnold) that your local VZW store will find two Droid X's for you next Thursday :)

I'm concerned about how online orders will be handled. I'm up for my NE2 and I don't want to deal with an MIR, so I would prefer to order it online. The VZW website offers free overnight shipping so I'm assuming that means I'll get it 7/16 at the latest, I would just like some assurance on that.

You could always go through best buy they have the same pricing as vzw online and they dont charge the mail in rebate its instant with best buy. You can never guarantee anything when you buy it online look at the droid incredible scenerio.
