3g icon in taskbar

I've attached an icon from my taskbar, just wondering what it does?

I've got mobile data, sync, and wi-fi off. Does this icon represent 3G being on (even though I have mobile data off).

Or is it just a standard default icon?

That's the icon for the 3G Watchdog app which monitors your internet usage. Swipe down from the top of the screen and you'll get more info in the notification area.

you should open it and make sure the refresh setting isn't too aggressive; I've once set mine up to update every 30sec and forgot to switch back, it nearly killed my battery overnight (no data loss, just power from constant usage); keep it on hourly intervals, you'll be fine.

Unless you have the setting 'Show icon only when data connection is active' (or similar)
