Hello I am new to these forums. I absolutely hate my hero. I am running the 2.1 software from sprint. I'm sure you guys are all aware of the problems (lag, having to press the contact you want to call 294823 times before it actually calls them, trouble answering calls) and I would honestly love to get a new phone, but I am past the 30 days. My question is, what makes this phone better? Is rooting the way to go? If i root, will it fix the problems I have with making/recieving calls and the lag? thank you!

It may, but from some of the threads I have read from rooters, they also have some lag issues on calls, so I guess it depends on who you talk too!!

Go to any Home Screen, then:

Menu->Settings->About Phone (at bottom)->System Updates->HTC software update...

If you haven't updated, it will ask if you want to and walk you through it. Once you have updated, reboot, and try out the lag.

damn it says there are no updates available... i still have terrible lag especially when i receive calls

Do you mean ringer lag? As in the phone doesn't start ringing right away and you end up missing the call? Changing the slot index cycle has helped a lot of people with that issue. You will need to call Sprint to get your MSL# in order to change it. I changed mine a long time ago so I don't remember the exact steps but you can search the forum to learn how.

actually, the opposite. the phone will ring perfectly on time, but the persons picture/the option to answer/decline wont show up for another 5 or so seconds and then when i slide it down to answer, it wont actually answer for another 4-5 seconds...

I've never experienced that problem, but have you tried pressing the green call button to answer instead of waiting to be able to slide to answer the call?

are u running other apps that keep the phone busy? like GPS and streaming music... and others???

have u checked to see if you have a bad app on your phone.. actually running and using CPU power all the time? A bad app does not sleep in the background as it should.

you might also want to try some of the custom ROMs.. See which will fix your issues.
