arranging Icons

I just picked up my Droid yesterday and I a wondering what the easiest way to arrange the icons would be?

All you need to do is long press on the icon you want to move and drag it to where you want it. if you want to add an icon simply press the menu button, then add and applications and select the appl you want to add to the screen

I know how to do that part, but I noticed the apps also stay on the page where I moved them from? Is it supposed to do that?

After placing it in the folder, did you go back to the main screen and drag the icon to the trash can?

Yes I went to the main screen, dragged it to inbox, it turns red....but I still the app in 2 places. The main screen and the empty screen next to it.

Ok, sorry that is the only way I know of removing icons from the screen is to long press till the little trash can icon shows at the bottom of the screen and then drag the icon over that icon till it is red. Are you using the stock launcher?

yes I have the stock launcher, I'm sorry.

It has been awhile since I used the stock program so I am not sure if it works the same. I would suggest changing to Launcher Pro beta from the market, seems to be a lot more simpler to add/delete icons, widgets and so on. I am not sure if there are many people who use the stock program that could help you out. I am sure if there is someone will have a suggestion here for you

1. Your apps drawer, the middle icon that when you click all the apps appear, and you can scroll up and down to see what you have installed

2. Your home screens, which is where you can create folders, drop apps, shortcuts and widgets. Usually there are three, and you can move left or right

3. Your notification bar, which is irrelevant in this discussion

Where do you have the apps that you want to delete, in the apps drawer or on the home screens?

If you have it on the home screens, click and hold the icon until you can drag it and then drop it in the middle of the bottom screen where a little trash can will appear and you can delete it. This only works for items that are stored in the home screens, like app shortcuts, widgets, shortcuts and folders

If the app appears on the app drawer, you cannot drag it from there to delete it (at least not in the stock browser), you need to go to your main settings - applications and manage applications. From there you can uninstall the application, this will remove it from the app drawer and any home screens.

I see....so no matter what even if I want to locate an app somewhere else, they have to remain in the apps drawer correct? So if i wanted to place an app on the left screen it would be there as well as the apps drawer?

I also noticed my sd card is 16gb, but nothing gets put on there...is that just for music or?

Since you are an iphone user, you are accustomed to see all your apps on the main screens.

The difference with Android, is that you can put whatever you want on the home screens

Apps
Widgets
Shortcuts
Folders

So,if you want to put an app on the left screen, go to the left screen, open the app drawer, click and hold the app you want, and then drag it anywhere on the screen that there is a spot available

Your 16GB is for music and files, as of right now, since you are using stock. With the release of 2.2 there is the option to store the apps on the card, but nothing right now

Dinosaur: I don't know if it'll help you to think of it this way, but look at the contents of your app drawer as a "master listing" of everything you decide to run on your phone (app-wise). When you decide to put something on a home screen, it's not being moved or copied, but what you're doing is creating a shortcut of it for easier access so you don't have to scroll through dozens of apps to get to what you you may be looking for.
