Should I return the Mytouch slide for Nexus1?

I love the Mytouch Slide. It's my first smart phone and I think it's great! I played with a Nexus One for the first time yesterday though, and it had an awesome feel. It was much thinner (the mytouch slide has a pull out keyboard), and lighter. It also just felt sturdier. On the other hand, the mytouch slide has actual buttons to press for home, back, menu, and it has the genius button. I like having the hard buttons... And the genius button has been really great. When I am driving I just tell it who to call and it does it. I am also concerned over the AMOLED screen on the Nexus One because I keep reading reports of screens breaking. I am having a hard time deciding also, if the extra $ would be worth it. The Mytouch slide I have is already really fast. In fact, the guy who let me see his Nexus One took my phone and played with it and he was surprised to see their speeds were pretty much the same as well as the touch responsiveness. I do know though, that Mytouch slide will not be getting gingerbread, but Nexus One will. Should I keep the slide or return it for the Nexus One? I haven't had it long and I was told when I bought it straight out that I would have 30 days to return it.
Thanks!

Go for it, you only live once....grab the Nexus one. With Froyo and the prospect of Gingerbread....no brainer? ;)

My honest opinion, having not used a MyTouch, would be yes. The reasons?

  1. Nexus One (mostly) gets the Android OS updates first
  2. Higher resolution screen
  3. AMOLED screen not TFT

However there are some downsides I suppose compared to the MyTouch:

  • AMOLED does have a tendancy to burn in for some
  • QWERTY slide out must come in handy

This burn in thing has been soooo blown out of proportion. How many people complain of this exactly? Or am i being Naive?

I can't give you exact stats...but just from my general feeling on the forums and in various sources it seems that enough people are having it to make others think about using their device less. Whilst I am sure it was an eye-candy experiment, let's not forget that Live Wallpapers also serve another purpose ;)

If you prefer a hardware keyboard and physical buttons, then the Nexus might disappoint. Two of the more common complaints are about the capacitive control buttons below the screen and being able to type on the soft keyboard. For me it's never been an issue, but some people are really bothered.

When I am driving I just tell it who to call and it does it.

You do know you shouldn't be drive while on the phone, right? The life you save might be my own. Anyway, that's a function of Android and with FroYo, it now accepts voice commands via bluetooth.

I am also concerned over the AMOLED screen on the Nexus One because I keep reading reports of screens breaking.

Glass breaks, whether it is a Nexus, Droid or iPhone. If you are prone to drop phones, then you'd at least need some kind of case or bumper.

Not sure what you expect the Nexus One to do that the MyTouch can't. The Nexus is a great phone and I am happy with mine, but i bought it for what it can do no, not what it might get by the end of the year. Besides, if the MyTouch *can* run Gingerbread, you can be sure there will be a bunch of mods floating around for it.

I don't know a lot about this. Are you saying the burn is from live wallpapers only? What other purpose do they serve?
