Need external battery charger -- they don't exist?

Big selling feature for the Moment over the iPhone is swapable batteries. I'd like to keep the phone with me at all times, and just swap in batteries.

But I can not find an EXTERNAL battery charger. Google search only turned up a "universal" charger where the contacts are manipulated to match up with the battery. Not a good option.

Anyone have a source for an external battery charger which I can use to charge spare batteries without using the phone?

I have a standalone charger I bought on ebay for my old phone (Samsung Ace.) The battery from my ace never quite fit correctly in there, but I was happy to find that it does a great job charging the battery for my Moment. I also found out if I tape a rolled up piece of paper to my old battery, it fits into the moment and runs. It's nice to be able to carry this as a spare if I fear that I'll be away from a charger for an extended period, even if it looks kind of janky. This looks like the cradle I have:

Guess I'm glad I didn't "donate" my Ace and its accessories ... I'll have to dust it off and pull out that charger, especially since I know I'll need a charger for both work AND home since this the juice on this thing disappears faster than I'd like to admit.

The Moment battery does NOT fit in this charger. Unfortunately, the Moment battery is too big, which means that you can just add some filler to the charger to make it fit.

Having said that, with some jiggling and gerry-rigging, this charge WILL charge the Moment battery. So bottom line, it does work.

I'm sorry to hear that this didn't fit for you. The one I have fits my moment battery perfectly, but my old Ace battery was too small to fit in there. There must be a few different models of this charger. Maybe others could measure the battery and ask the seller to measure the charger before buying. Sorry to hear this didn't work out for you, but I'm glad you were at least able to get it to partially work.

Don't get me wrong -- this is a VIABLE SOLUTION. It is just a matter of having the battery slope down into the charger (since it is too big to fit) and making sure that the red charging light comes on, which sometimes takes some jiggling or adjusting. Not perfect, but it works as in PROBLEM SOLVED, so I'm happy.

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but Sprint makes an external USB battery charger that will run the phone and charge it at the same time. Better yet, head to the t-mobile store. They have the same thing, much smaller and cheaper. It's not ideal, but it works great on a plane, in meetings, or at a conference where a socket is not available.

On the weekends I can have my wife throw it in her purse and charge while we're running errands.

I'm looking for something like this . I have one of these with 3 batteries for my Touch Pro. I had one battery in the phone, a charged battery in my bag/pocket (inside a small pouch) and one in the charger. For an extra (free)battery, just go to a repair center and complain politely about your battery life. If you're nice, the tech will throw you a battery or 2. I considered one of those rechargeable portable chargers, but the ones that can charge fully are expensive and much bulkier than a spare battery. My whole TP battery setup cost me less than $10.

I also have used external battery chargers with all my phones (when available) Here is the company that makes the Ace charger, Sync and Charge - USB Desktop Cradle They seem to have made quite a few Samsung models.
If enough of us contact them, they may come out with a model for us. Instead of using the ACE version -which is going to be my backup like Johnny Cakes and KeithKris. I also just picked up 2 spare batteries at 1800mobiles.com for $25 each. :D

Not to co-op my own thread and change the subject, but has anyone tried the generic "no-name" Moment batteries on eBay? Like Mr. Gadget, I have a couple of the Samsung branded batteries at $25 a pop, but the generics are selling for five bucks on eBay. Even if they last half as long, its not a bad backup.

KeithKris, could you do a measurement on the battery compartment of the charger you have that works, maybe even model numbers from the bottom?

I've noticed several versions for different phones from various websites. I'm wondering if you have a different version, since you said it never fit the original phones battery?

I noticed the rear facing photos show 2 indentations on either side of the charging pins, but our battery does not have the indentation on the right side.

I can do a little better than that. I don't have a good ruler, but it looks just over 2" by just over 1.5". Here are some pictures, including ones with the battery inserted. I just noticed that it says blackjack II on the bottom. I was under the assumption that the ace and bj2 were the same phone except for the front styling, but perhaps the battery size is different. What's odd is that the spare battery I bought for my Ace was listed as a BJ2 battery, and it fit just fine.

KeithKris, Thanks.

I got a reply from Fosmon on the availability of a charger for us,

Thanks for your interest in our cradles. However we currently do not carry the cradle that will fit your phone. I have forwarded your inquiry to our buyer who will look into possibly getting the cradle in the near future. New cradles take about 8 weeks from design, production to being available for sale.

So the more people that contact them with interest, the more likely they will produce something. See my previous post for the link to the webpage.

I bought 2 OEM Samsung batteries 9not knock-offs) for $11.99 each
