Android Newbie Alert!

Hi everyone!

Just found this site, am looking to get an Android phone very soon (probably the HTC Desire) and thought I'd join up to chat with like-minded folk.

I currently have a Symbian Samsung i8510, which I thought was the beesknees before I bought it but I feel like I've been stung (excuse the pun!). I'm not sure if my phone is faulty, but it's incredibly slow, video playback is clunky and the audio is out of time. I stupidly bought it as a bit of an impulse buy after reading no reviews and only because it was the only phone (at the time) with an 8MP camera, which by the way is shockingly bad at taking photos! The web browser is awful and I'm underwhelmed by the level of support for it out there, considering Symbian is the current market-leader in the smartphone market.

As a phone, it does what I need it to do (calls & texts), but as a smartphone it fails to meet the mark so I've been carefully checking out new smartphones and reading lots of reviews (not going to make the same mistake!)

The HTC Desire seems to do everything I need and the reviews are good. I work in IT and I'm not joking when I say that the vast majority of my friends & work buddies own iPhones but I really don't get the hype with them.

So, this is me and a little bit of my history getting here - thanks for reading and I hope to contribute a little bit more in the near future!
