Windws XP 64 bit Drivers

Well i have been searching, but the search system on this site wont let me search key words "xp" or "64" so it has been frustrating to say the least. I followed rafcor post at http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/29449-htc-sync-win-xp-x64-not-good.html to install HTC sync on XP 64. However I cannot find divers for the EVO anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find any, or if I can use the Vista/7 64bit drivers? Any help would be appreciated as I have had this phone for almost 2 weeks and still cannot hook it up to my computer.

P.S.
I am not buying a new OS just for a freaking phone.

I'm in the same boat.

Too much software invested in XP64, and too much work to do to take almost a week off and a few a Grand to upgrade.

I'm trying out Missing Sync at this very moment... but the first sync is literally taking hours. Don't know if it's my Wi-Fi or something else.

I tried the DejaOffice & CompanionLink thing but there were just too many steps and added middle men.

A seamless sync between MS Office and my phone is the only thing I regret about trading in my Diamond for an EVO.

The problem is that XP is so old. At some point, vendors will stop writing their code for older platforms. Also keep in mind that while the user base for XP may still be somewhat significant, the 64-bit XP market was always small overall.

Keep in mind that there have been two releases of Windows since XP, and 64-bit support was in it's infancy in XP. While I understand that you may have your reasons for sticking with XP, HTC has just as many, if not more reasons, to exclude an OS whose user base which is rapidly declining.

I understand you don't want to have to buy an OS to use HTC Sync, you may be forced to. Perhaps a dual-boot system, or an OS in a virtual machine would help in your scenario.

I am curious, what are you trying to do exactly? I imagine there are alternative options available if 64-bit XP is still in your future.

what do u mean upgrade? just upgrade to 7 and use the windows 7 compatabilty software. i work in it for a company and i do there tech refreshes its my job to make sure all the propriatary software works in the new os's and i have yet to find a piece of software that wont run using the built in emulation software that in win 7 64

The main purpose for having this is not neccisarily to use HTC sync, but to put music and movies on my phone and take pics off. I actually got HTC sync installed, im am just looking for drivers so my computer can recognise the device. I really only need acess to the sd card, but would rather not have to take my phone apart to use a reader every time i want to put something new on it.

You cannot upgrade xp to 7, i would have to do a clean install. I am well aware that upgrading my OS will fix this problem. Please dont post unhelpful replies telling me this

I think I understand a little better now, I had previously thought you were trying to possibly use Sync for something other than what you're describing. If card access is all you need, Sync isn't necessary. Unfortunately, with you being on XP 64-bit, there is no USB support to read the card as external storage as you've found out.

An external card reader is one option, but as you mentioned it would be a pain to pop the back off and remove the card each time you need to upload a file.

However, have you given any thought to using Astro file manager to move files to your device? If your phone is connected wirelessly, you can setup a shortcut to a network file connection, and then copy files from that network connection straight to the SD card. No drivers would be necessary. It may be a little cumbersome for a large number of of files/directories, but would work pretty well for maintaining copies of movies and music. Possibly remove the card intially, if you have a large number of files to manage, then use Astro to maintain what you want on the card.

This would be a pain since I also have the Body Glove case. I do use Astro, but have not played with the WiFi file transfer or anything like that. I may give that a try.

Astro's network access works well, especially if you make network shares favorites/bookmarks. I use it a lot on the corporate network as well as at home. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any other drivers to suggest.

I will say that Win7 is very nice, and once you move that way you'll love it after a few weeks. I held our corporate network back from Vista, but have been purchasing Win7 equipped computers for months now. My users love Win7 once they get used to it. In fact, a couple fight over whether they get the Win7 PC or the XP box.

Just the initial 64-bit support for Win7 was much better than 64-bit support for XP ever was, and it's only gotten better since. I didn't make the 64-bit leap until Win7 on my primary machine because of mediocre 64-bit support with XP and Vista over the years. Since making the 32/64 bit switch with Win7 I've had no regrets no issues. Anything I've needed is supported.

Thanks for the quick replies! I got XP 64 because of its stability, and I am glad that I did (aside from all the dumb software issues it has with iTunes and HTC sync). I will keep looking for drivers and post anything if I find them.

a couple more options for you, try andFTP on your Evo, and setup XP to allow FTP access, google will get you directions if you don't know how. I get 60KBps uploads from my Evo using it. you can also try using another computer as a "passthrough" get the drivers installed on another system, then connect your Evo and a USB storage device (stick, key, external HDD, whatever) and push the files direct through the other computers USB, nothing but the device drivers will get installed or stored on the other PC.

I found out that my computer can get access to the SD card, just will not sync with HTC Sync. Found drivers at dc50 Hideaway: ADB Driver for HTC Evo 4G gonna see if they fix anything. I will look into that FTP thing, it could be a really neat feature to have.
