Both are task management online services syncing with an android applications
(the toodledo app for android is called "Get things done" or GTD and remember the milk's app is "Remember the milk")

If someone has used both please tell me if there is any advantage of using toodledo intead of RTM?

Or anything you can share, so i can decide with which one to go

I've used both and ended up going with Google Tasks and gtasks. Google tasks is obviously free and gtasks is free but there are "pro" features that you have a 30 day trial of. If you want to keep the pro features, it's $3.99. Works perfectly. Waiting on a replacement phone then I'm going pro with it.

After using both RTM and Toodledo extensively in their direct web interface, gmail extension(s) interface, etc I just prefer Google tasks. No third parties, no one trying to get me to pay an annual fee to upgrade the service. Google tasks is simple, fast and it works. Plus you can integrate directly into Google Calendar if you choose. One feature I use the most is the lists feature...you can separate tasks by list and move them around between them. I find it really useful.

But, ultimately, create an account on all three, add a few tasks, delete/complete them, try adding lists, tags, dates, using them in gmail and on your phone and see which one works best with your work style. Doesn't have to take a long time but you'll probably have one that stands out to you and feels most intuitive. Gotta love choice, right??

PS A few people complained that gtasks isn't completely "free" but I have no problems with it being a few dollars (and thus reduced it's rating on the Android Market). But I personally have no problems with it...it's a few dollars and no other developer has come up with anything similar. Plus, if you don't want to pay, you can manually sync.

thank you guys, that might be just the perfect way
i would love to keep everything centralized at google's cloud anyway (docs and stuff as well)
but does google task have a vista gadget or something like that to bring it to my desktop as well?

also seems it doesnt have widget for the android desktop yet, but i guess there will be one soon?

I've been a long-time RTM user and have been pleased with their services. I have a pro account. After picking up the EVO, I found RTM with Astrid to be the best option. Astrid is nice because so many other developers allow integration with Astrid.

I did not try ToodleDO, so I cannot compare. I did try to go with Google Tasks because it seemed like it would be nice to have everything running through Google, but there were too many basic functions missing, such as recurring tasks. Maybe that has been fixed, but it wasn't there last I tried.

I would be interested in hearing what else is out there, but I will say I am happy with the setup I'm using now.

After using both RTM and Toodledo, I choose Toodledo as the clear winner. While RTM developers tout RTM as open source, it really doesn't play that nice in the IT sandbox. Compare the export/import features to Toodle and rest easy that your data is truly portable and mungable should your future task management needs change. Yes, the UI of Toodle is ugly, but you can tweak it easily if you use chrome or firefox. IF GTD is a priority for you, then Toodle trumps handily with several features that I was working-around with RTM. Search the Market for Toodledo and you will see a couple options for Android apps. I'm sure there will be an explosion of options soon, and I also look forward to improvements of Toodle itself, which I gave up on with RTM after developers there said they were'n't adding subtasks... ever! Hope this helps, now let's get back to work! ; )

All My Best,

James

If shared lists is a necessity then RTM is the only way to go.
When I saw the title of this post, I came in to answer exactly this. If you need to share tasks, you can do this with RTM for free - share individual tasks or full lists. You can use RTM on the website, Gmail, Google Calendar, iGoogle and Astrid on your Android.

If you don't need shared tasks, either would do fine. I'd check them both out, test them and decide which one you like better.

My wife and I love Ourgroceries. In addition to creating any list you want, you can also save lists that you use often. We play in a band so we recall our band checklist each time we gig and check things off as they get packed. We also keep ourgroceries website as a tab on google chrome so we can access these lists from any of our computers quickly. It's a great system for us.

Good thread...

I liked both RTM and Toodledo from my BB days. Even then, the cloud snyc thing made sense, which is why I liked the web interface components.

In any case, I preferred Toodledo... even though neither really duplicated my benchmark (Datebk). Now give me a Datebk-like software title with GTD capabilities and web interface... YES!

I wanna try reQall for Android... looks good.

I ran a trial of RTM after having used Toodledo for a long while. I guess I'd already been biased by Toodledo and went back there after the trial period on RTM ran out - I really didn't find anything that stood out to make me want to switch. Maybe I never saw this on RTM but one thing I like on T is the ability to add batch tasks in the web interface. One key feature both services seem to lack is the RECURRING TASKS ability to specify HOW LONG (no of times to repeat) or WHEN (exact date) to stop a recurring event.

Astrid <-> RememberTheMilk.com <-> Outlook works great for me. I already use HTC Sync to sync my Android contacts and calendar directly through USB with Outlook on my laptop. But it does not sync tasks. Someone on the forum recommended Astrid for an Android app on my Evo. Astrid is a free task app which can manually sync with the touch of a button to a free RTM online account, and then there is a free plugin-in that someone created that can auto-sync Outlook with your online RTM account. I only logged into RTM once to create my free account. It essentially works as an intermediary step to sync Astrid on my phone & Outlook 2010 on my laptop. I avoid having to put any of my data on the Google cloud this way.

I started out with Got To Do. I don't like the interface and am fed up with it because some of the buttons and fields are too small to activate.

I tried Astrid for a few days and am finding it quite buggy.

This is the one area that is making me start to miss my iPod Touch where I was using a really good app for this.

+1
OurGroceries is GREAT! It's even cross-platform.
I have an Evo and my wife has a blackberry curve, and our lists are synced!

Toodledo:
Hard to find a Widget that works on screen
No direct way of adding a task from android, I use pocket informant (other than the Toodle Droid *which does not work* Pocket Informant is the only Toodledo third party app available to Android users in Turkey) the current way I have is:
Open Pocket Informant, press menu button, choose add task.

In remember the milk you click on the widget and the new task entry box is right above.

Toodle do has more advanced features and easier export but I had troubles
syncing with Pocket Informant for a while.

Remember the milk is harder to export.

Overall I like Remember The Milk more. The layout is easier, the widgets make everything much easier, but this is mostly because I live in Turkey and I cant access even the free apps in Google Market.
