Anyone else annoyed with Froyo hype ?

They had a whole event for Froyo back in May or whatever. Then last week they say it will come "very soon". Now its by december. Come on ... I'm annoyed not being able to put apps on my SD card. Really limits what I can do.

I know they're excited about they're software but it all seemed alittle premature IMO. If I gave any credit to Apple it would be that they're pretty punctual with new software and stick to it most of the time. If it wasn't ready they shouldve kept it under wraps longer. Seems like they just stringing us along.

Realistically we won't see gingerbread for a year probably and they re already talking about that. Spoon feeding each device Froyo is annoying in itself.

I'm no dev and I'm sure its not easy to do but the way they go about it seems all wrong. Just wanted to rant. My apologies if this annoys anyone. But very soon to me is like a week or two. "soon" maybe a couple months. IDK.

Well the major problem for us is that if we want the official HTC build with sense, we will have to wait a while. Then wait for Sprint to push it out to us. All in all I think the hype surrounding Froyo will ultimately lead to alot of users thinking its some sort of messiah upgrade. Even now we get threads everyday about when will get get Froyo, and the poster doesnt even know what it is or what it does. Im sure the upgrade will be nice but people need to stop overhyping it.

I have to say that I am already tired of the ranting about 2.2... 2.2 will be great, when it is ready for prime-time. Apparently they have thrown out 3 or 4 RC's for the Nexus in the last month. They do have one 'approved' for the N1, but this does not mean that it is 'ready' to go for all the devices.

HTC and Sprint are working as fast as they can to get the best user experience. Keep in mind they just finished designing the EVO around 2.1. Retweaking everything to 2.2 (however small the differences are) will take some time. I doubt we will have to wait until December to see it, but seriously, is your EVO lagging already?

I do want to install apps to the SD card without rooting... I do want the JIT compiler to make mine run smoother... I do want the 30fps cap fixed (if that's really a problem?) and I do want to have access to the latest and greatest stuff for the phone.

Overall, I think the carriers will disable a good chunk of the 'new features' like the wifi tethering and such because they want to charge for them. Sprint charges $30 to tether your EVO now, you think they aren't going to restrict access to free tethering? I bet all we will see in 2.2 on the EVO is a smoother experience, better game play and faster load times on software.

May was Google demoing it, it wasn't even released then. It wasn't until very recently that they released the full source, so there was nothing HTC could do with it until that point. Now they have it we can only assume they are working on it.

The December date is someone's speculation, nothing more. We could have it as soon as this month, depending on what priority HTC is giving it.

If what wasn't ready? the EVO is plenty ready with 2.1. As for updates, if you recall there was an update available on launch day (6/4) to fix a known bug with the SD card. Can't ask for much better than an 0-day fix (well, other than there not being bugs in the first place, but that's unrealistic.)

Where's the fix for the radio on the iPhone 4? The Apple forums are all blow'd up over that right now because Apple are taking their sweet a$$ time releasing it.

Realistically we won't see gingerbread for a year probably and they re already talking about that. Spoon feeding each device Froyo is annoying in itself.

Gingerbread isn't even code complete, so ANY predictions on when that will be available for anything is just pure speculation. Perhaps the problem is that people have too much information because Android is transparent. I don't see people asking when their iPhone 4 will get iOS 4.1, because people don't know when Apple is expecting to finish it.

iHave a feeling that this may end up like how the Hero Recieved its update by finally updating to 2.1 within a week or two before another major roadmap phone hit the streets..so if the Winter launch for this Frozen Yogurt actually comes out in December iWill be kinda upset but not mad because i would probely be the fool to get another phone like iDid with the Evo..but what I am saying is most of the time SPRINT IS A MAJOR FAIL with Promises, but hopefully since this is said to be still a top of the line phone, they should continue to make the Evo as strong as the newer phones coming out..and another 'but' there is always ROOT!

I wouldn't say that so fast. Seeing the iphone in December and seeing launch out in June made me go from "I must have it!" to "eh...". The three months wait on the EVO was too long in my opinion.

Why would anybody be annoyed at the progress of Android? If something like that can seriously effect your mood, you have bigger issues going on.

Why would anyone be annoyed ? Wow :) Guess Android can do no wrong to you. Lol. Its a phone man. I bought it and expect any upgrades. I simply stated I'm tired of the hype when it ain't even ready for all but one phone. I'm no Droid fanboy :) it ain't that serious man. I think your the one with the issues.

Who said it affected my mood Dr. Phil ? :) Stick to being a fanboy. Its called having an opinion. Don't worry you'll get em next time. Enjoy your thank you I'm sure it made your summer.

Kinda sad you can't post anything negative about the Evo without the fanboys coming out crying. Kids these days.

if its really christmas (which i dont think it will be) then I'll root for sure.

I heart my EVO but will seriously investigate devices outside of HTC for my next phone. Gingerbread "theoretically" makes manufacturer skins redundant and if HTC insists on sticking with sense in spite of that, then I don't see a reason to give them my business.

Since Sense can be disabled on the EVO, my hope is that HTC will have two releases of gingerbread: one for vanilla android as soon as its available like it is for N1, and another wrapped in sense. Seems like that would effectively quell any consumer dissatisfaction by offering a choice.
