Should Arizona secede from the US?

Recently Arizona was trying to pass an immigration law to search all "mexican looking people" whenever an officer was in doubt that they are legally here.

The government sued Arizona and is trying to shut down this law from taking affect.

For some of you that don't know, Arizona is at war with the drug cartel. They are drenched with illegals, over 400,000 of them.

Children are dying, people are getting murdered, raped, and robbed, all because of a plant that life created, and many of us have abused.

Since the Arizona receives not protection or help from the government, should it pack up its bags and secede from the Union?

Arizona has been at war with the cartel, and now its going to be in a legal "war" against the feds for the right to protect its own borders

Edit: I guess Arizona is right the border.

no we shouldnt secede from the union, the federal government should do thier jobs and protect the borders. there were over a million people granted legal us citizenship last year, those coming across the border are commiting a federal crime and all the police officers here in az can do is ask the person their name and address and pass it along to ICE who do nothing... if the federal govt enforced the federal law and there were stronger laws against hiring illegals (IE: heavier fines and then you lose your business for continued violations) we wouldnt have the issues we have and we wouldnt have passed this law. do i think the law is a good thing, yes and no. it is an attempt to untie the hands of police officers in the state since the feds just want to sit back and do nothing. does it go about it the wrong way, yes, i totally think so. you go after the people hiring illegals and then they have no reason to come here. however most people seem perfectly willing to forget that they are illegals still, they have commited a federal offense just coming here, i'd really like to see how many people would cry for the release of bank robbers that commited federal robberies who were "just trying to make a better life for themselves". illegal is illegal, if over a million people were granted citizenship last year then those wanting to come here should go about doing it the legal way, until then they're just criminals.

It's fascinating that so many folks want the feds to be reduced in size and influence except when it comes to grinding their own particular ax...

In any event, Arizona's law will be deemed to violate the supremacy clause in the U.S. Constitution and that will be the end of the Arizona law.

hackr, please quote me anywhere in any of my posts where i have argued for reduction in size and influence...

its the federal govts responsibility right? whether or not our law makes it out of court or not it certainly has put a pretty big exclamation point on a problem the govt has ignored for too long simply because its been too controversial a topic for them...

not sure about the validity of your comment about the supremacy clause, its still a federal crime, we're not prohibiting the federal govt from coming in and prosecuting them at a federal level, we're simply making it a state violation as well. if the federal govt wants to come in and prosecute at the federal level they can go right ahead but if they dont then we will go right ahead and prosecute them at the state level. :)

I wasn't referring to you or, in fact, to anyone else in particular.

I don't disagree that the feds are in charge of protecting the borders and, in fact, are doing a crappy job of it.

Here's an interesting piece about whether the Arizona law will withstand
Constitutional testing:

Well lets just wait another 2 years for government to get the troops out before they can take care of the problem.

You people have no idea how bad these mexican gangs are.

They shot up a police station, and in that part of the city, there was no police officers working for 10 days because they feared for their lives.

In another place, they left a bag with human body parts in front of a police station.

In a part of mexico (which is near to us) they closed down a dead end street, and were ordered to kill everyone and burn all the houses, including kids and wives.

So you know what? all you people that want to follow rules and just say "let the feds take care of it", tell that to the family who have already been affected in the state of Arizona.

All of you are a bunch of hypocrits and if you were in their position, you would be fighting for your lives ( or run away)

I think maybe if AZ was really afraid of mexican gangs they would have gone after "gangs" instead of "illegals" in their bill. Los Angeles for example has laws that help with their gang enforcement. If AZ had gone after "gangs", there would be no PR nightmare and Fed govt would be on the fight mexican gangs bandwagon.

Really? I have read every page of Arizona's SB 1070 a few times....have you? I haven't read anything anywhere in the entire bill that is in any way even remotely close to what you have said.

Sounds like you have been really been drinking the Kool-Aid.

1070 says a LEO can inquire about a person's immigration status if "reasonable suspicion exists"...thats all. I think people are afraid LEOs' definitions of "reasonable suspicion" will be WAAAAAAYY broad leading to ethnic discrimination.

hmm, name is papichulo, and you seem to spout off only what those against the bill have been screaming while leaving out the portions of the bill that give people the whole picture and not just the part that lets everyone call Arizona racist. me thinks that you've lost some credibility in this argument with your untrue statements and omissions . the part you left out in your quote above is the portion in the bill where people can only be questions about their immigration status if they have been detained for committing a crime.

news flash, its been ruled time and time again by the Supreme Court that local police have the authority to question suspects that have been detained for crimes about their immigration status. ;)

And directly from line 24 of the law, then repeated on line 28:

"The attorney general or county attorney shall not investigate complaints that are based solely on race, color, or national origin."

That's sort of a statement devoid of content. It's not difficult for a cop to say that he pulled someone over because the driver was driving in a dangerous fashion, whether the driver was doing so or not.
