i upgraded firmware to R2BA023 yesterday and everything seems to work fine until today.

whenever i open mediascape, i get 'the application playnow (process com.sonyericsson.playnonowstore.android) has stopped unexpectedly, please try again. i have tried these options below but nothing works

- from manage applications
. mediascape --> clear data, clear cache, force stop
. mediascape plug-in manager --> clear data, clear cache, force stop
. playnow --> UNABLE to clear data ??
- recycle phone a few times --> power off and on
- delete task manager to make sure this app is not auto-killing mediascape

i get the force close pop-up everytime i launch mediascape. i supposed i can do a HARD reset, but i try to avoid this as i have to re-install everything.

any ideas????

I had this happen except to the process that controls the phone itself (i.e. making/receiving calls). The only way I was able to do this was to do a Repair using PC Companion (can also be done using Update Service). Unfortunately, I had to reinstall everything that wasn't backed up on the SD card but I didn't have many apps from the Market installed at the time.

Hopefully someone can offer a solution that results in not having to reinstall everything but it seems like repairing the firmware is the best solution for this.

repair using pc companion sounds similar to a hard reset since you had to re-install everything, right? does pc companion offers you what to repair??

It is basically a hard reset.

PC Companion, once you are in the Support Zone and have checked for updates, will give you the option to cancel or repair. It doesn't tell you what firmware it is repairing to but it seems to repair to the most recent firmware that you have installed, so R2BA023 in your case.

are there other options beside pc companion or hard reset? wouldn't a hard reset be much cleaner if i absolutely had to go that route?

If there are other options, you'll have to wait for someone else to give them because this is the only one I know that will work for sure.

The repair option removes the latest firmware from your phone then reinstalls it and this usually removes any errors that may have happened during your update process.

I just want to be sure we're on the same page here, what do you mean by hard reset? Do you mean what I am saying with the repair option or to reset the phone to factory settings (the original firmware) and then reinstalling everything from there?

hmm...changing the time zone is an interesting thought. i connected to pc companion and it went thru install/update process. i still have my upgraded firmware from yesterday, plus all the apps are still there and it FIXES the error with mediascape...whew

thank you both for your help. hopefully, it will not happen again any time soon.

Hello,
I am still having a trouble of updating software where it gets to the step( asking you to make sure the phone battery is at least 50%, disconnect between the phone and the computer then shut it off, take out the battery for 5 sec before reinserting, then hold the back-button while plugging in the USB to the phone). Could you please guide me how you do it?
Thanks a lot

the guide is in the process of updating to the latest firmware...

here is it:
1. your battery is at least 50%
2. remove the battery for at least 5 seconds and take it back to your phone
3. make sure the usb cable is connected to your pc and while plugging in the other side of the cable to your phone, hold the back button (the one that has the arrow icon)
4. wait until the update window tells you to release the back button

hope it helps you
