Just Exchanged My Droid For Another

Well, i decided to bring my droid back to verizon because of the constant loss of sound in the speaker and the screen goin black while im in a call, and I would never be able to access the screen unless i did a battery pull everytime. I noticed my droid was a 39/09 and the screen wasnt too responsive as well.. the one i got today, after having to ARGUE with the verizon rep because he said i couldnt exchange it unless i had physical problems. I explained whats the point of the 30 day return policy then.. so finally got the new one, and then it seems to be working fine thus far. alot smoother on the screen, and the phone is a 42/09 model which i guess is the most recent. Anyone else having these problems?? and do u think the dates are to blame??

Yeah mines was doing the same.. just pull your battery out, and on the back of the phone there will be some barcodes, look down and look for a date for example, 39/09 or 42/09

Under the battery.

i thought so...thanks guys...:D much appreciated...

UPDATE: just check i got the 41/09 but haven't had any problems...should I exchange for the 42/09? phones not even 1 week old yet...

only reason i exchanged mine was the low battery life. even the rep said i should be able to make it a day on a charge. she did a battery test and the battery was fine so she just replaced everything. loving the new 42/09 a lot more

I have a 44/09 and have two issues. One is the hanging in text messaging, the other is a metallic or scratch sound on the speaker phone. Debating about returning it.

what was the reason you gave them to get the 42/09 one. i have the 41/09 one and the battery hardly last me one day and that is only sitting in my pocket
well i went in asking why my battery was not lasting even a half day with low-medium use. i told them i have read others getting day and a half out of theres and i was nowhere close to that. even one of the reps in the store that owned one said she was getting a day an a half with high use. so they said they could do a 3 hour battery test which i let them do but the battery seemed fine so she just replaced the phone. one thing me a nd the rep noticed is i would drop signal speraticaly which if you phone is doing that and searching for signal again it will kil you battery. i'd take it in and make sure to get a 42/09 at least. my droid experience is 10x what it was when i got it cause now i can play on it all day haha.

I have a 39/09 device. My 2 biggest problems are:

1) Camera is ridiculous and almost unuseable. Between taking forever to start up and the hit or miss whether it actually can focus and take the picture. This seems to be widespread problem with a fix hopefully coming 12/6.

2) Sluggishness. The phone is so slow it's difficult to use. Rebooting it makes it work a bit better. I can't tell if this is normal as people have complained about it or if there's something wrong with my phone. I have a task killer and try to keep it pretty clean but that feels so much like Windows Mobile which I definitely didn't sign up for.

Is there legitimate information that 41/09 or 42/09 phones are "better" than 39/09 phones? What is different about them? Is it software upgradeable these differences?

What do you think? Can I return my 39/09 if I go into Verizon and tell them my battery life stinks (cause it does)? I'm getting at the most 8 hours with no wifi and no gps.

It's also pretty slow and lagging with the scroll and the screen keypad pretty much sucks...

Would love to get a more recent model and see a change in these things but part of me thinks it's just a software issue...

just checked and I have a 40/09
My battery will last a day but my signal will often drop to 1X in areas that are very well covered by 3G (work fine on my Tour and Curve at same location). Perhaps I should request them to look in to it

See, now mine does this ALL the time and am in a good coverage area... I have the 39/09 and you have the 40/09... anyone else experiencing this?

I think I will go in tomorrow and get them to look at it

I've seen 1x on my phone all of like 3 times during the week+ that I've had the Droid.

I would see it, say something to the extent of "what the hell is this..." and it would be fixed before I could finish my sentence.

If you know you're in a good coverage zone, you should definitely bring it in.

The antenna in the Droid beats the crap out of the Tour, and if you had great reception on the Tour (as I did), the Droid should be above and beyond that.

Mine is a 42/09, if that matters.

Hey guys, I returned my first phone also. It took 50 mins for the guy to finially give me a new one geeze. I returned because the wifi would stall and I would have to restart the phone, also the camera handled very bad (I know its common but I've heard others not having any problems).

He spent 30min playing with the camera when I've been playing with it the whole week. Then he kept changing settings for the wifi. I even left the phone with the wifi stalled so they could SEE for themselves it wouldn't get fixed until I restarted (it was getting annoying restarting my phone atleast 3 times a day, the guy even had the gall to say I didn't really need WiFi because I have unlimited data. I mean I didn't pay 300$ for a device with WiFi that sometimes works :\).

I flat out asked him if I could just get a replacement unit and he said the same thing stated above that they "couldn't really replace it if it works when you restart it" give me a break... He finally gave me a new one after he went in the back to do something.

I don't get it, I was expecting this to be fast and painless. I read some posts where people got their defective ones replaced with NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I guess it depends on the region or something :\

Anyway I'm having great performance increases with my replacement. The camera get green more, the bar-code scanner detects quicker. The auto settings adjust better. The odd thing though is that my first phone was 39/09 but my replacement phone was also 39/09! I even notice a little difference in build quality, my replacement has softer keys upon press and the slider feels like it slides out a bit differently!

it really all depends on the rep you get. i've been through enough reps to know there is no unifying policy they adhear to. it's all BS. it just depends on how good they feel like doing there job. i would have ripped that rep a new asshole when they said i don't really need wifi. i paid $300, it all better work.

went through 3 or 4 voyagers
