Major Flaw With the Evo - Do This!

If you ever use the gps, try turning your music on. Test that it will always drop the gps signal with music on. Then e-mail and call HTC like crazy about this issue until they either replace our phones or if it's a software issue then release a patch.

EDIT: Since most people started flaming me, I will post more information to validate this error. It seems to be external speaker related, as far as I can tell using headphones will not cause any problems.

I track my Jogs and hikes every day with GPS on my EVO. Every day i am also streaming pandora or listening to mp3's I have downladed to the phone at the same time. It works fine. not sure what you mean.

Zero problems here. OP what is your music source? SD card? streaming?

Is it Sprint Nav or Google Nav?

Is it Slacker Radio, Pandora or some other alternative streaming client
or
Is it the stock music app and its your music you put on the SD card.

i did a brief test...

used a gps tracking app.. turned it on and set to track. then i turned on music (used both the stock media/mp3 player and streamed with Pandora) then went to the web browser and opened a couple web pages. seems to be working fine. nice stress test though.. didnt even studder!

I've put about 200 miles on my bicycle with MyTracks (GPS tracking) and MP3 or Pandora music going with no problem. I walk to/from the train stations with music playing and never lose GPS lock.

I agree. User error. Trying punching yourself, it fixes things a lot.

This appears to be a valid problem, but you did not mention that it is external speaker related. Most people listen to music via headphones, so they wouldn't encounter this issue.

Can we get back on topic, please? Will people try confirming this using a gps app with music playing through the external speaker. You may not have problems if your not driving, it could be that moving slowly doesn't have any issue with the gps tracking you.

I will try it although this situation will never arise for me. Whenever I am using both at the same time I have it playing through the headphone jack. when would I ever need GPS and Music out of the speaker? But I will try it

I have a similar situation when I have the GPS on and using bluetooth in my car to stream music from the phone it pauses & skips it disrupts the stream.

Turning GPS off helped a lot & I get continuous stream now going into my car speakers.

When I am driving my EVO is connected to my system via Headphone Jack and yes when I am using GPS it Pauses the Music and gives the directions over my sound system. So I never use the actual speaker to listen to music at the same time as using GPS

Ah, alright. Well, I don't have that option so this is a problem for me.

Yeah I can imagine it is frustrating. Like I said i will try this when I get in my car. In the meantime (and yes it would be a workaround but an awesome one) if your car stereo has an AUX button you can add an Audio line pretty easily with a few mods. I did this to my 2005 Mustang stock stereo with a 60.00 part and a 4.00 cable from Radioshack. Everything sounds great over the car speakers. Even if you don't have an AUX button do a search for your car make model and year stereo for this mod. Took me about 30 minutes (have to pull the stereo out to plug in the back).
