I only read the first page of the guys article but I am not sure what your question is.

He is saying that due to the open source of Android, it is possible to download a app that will attempt to steal your information.

While it's unlikely, it IS possible. So He is just saying, from what I can tell, that if you want to be extra cautious then you can use Lockout.

Personally I plan on using this app or something similar myself. Not for the security features but for the ability to track my phone if I lose it. I can't count the number of times I have left my phone laying around only to have my cat decide it was a toy and push it under the coutch. Then I run around like a mad woman looking for my phone. It's frequently on silent (cause I tend to forget to turn the sound back on when I turn it off at work) so calling it wouldn't help.

exactly why i use it. the full system scan is annoying and kills battery (unless you set it to do it when charging. But i let it scan my newly downloaded apps (just as added security or if someone else wants to try something on my phone).

My only irk with the program is the SCREAM cannot be turned off without shutting your phone down and I wish the GPS feature would activate GPS on your phone if its off, mine frequently is.

I was just curious as to whether or not it's worth scanning applications/your phone for that kind of stuff.

i takes an extra 10 seconds and lookout does it automatically. i always check the permissions of the app, but like i said before...some people wanna try and download something or if i happen to skip over it. i like to have a back up just in case.

i cant believe tech has gotten to the point where i need to worry about 'viruses' on my friggin cell phone

If you are the type of person that downloads tons of app's then yea, maybe it's worth it.

I tend to only go with app's that have a lot of downloads and feedback. But I don't really see anything wrong with that extra layer of protection.

I don't look at porn on my PC but I still have antivirus installed JIC ;)

That's why I use Mobile Defense!

+1 Mobile Defense rules, :) you can even add multiple phones to 1 account, so parents can look after kids and such :) great application

+3 Mobile Defense. I found that Lookout was a waste of battery juice. Also Mobile Defense isn't listed as an app on the phone so if someone stole they wouldn't be able to disable it. Unless they looked in your market downloads.

i guess i dont have a clear understanding of what your concern is...

i use lookout, deactivated the virus scan but always have it scan new apps and the scream/locate option is cool

Same here. Not to worried I don't keep any major info on mine. I still use my laptop for the big stuff like financial transactions and such.
