Of the bloat we know about on this phone it makes you wonder why they are messing around with Blockbuster. Not an app I seeing myself running up the phone bill with or even using. Actually, if and when root comes along id be ditching it like bejeweled.

I think a lot of people are baffled by this, but something tells me Motorola ran it by Blockbuster as a way for them to gain more ground in video rentals and distribution, unfortunately I don't think there is much Blockbuster can do but to declare bankruptcy. Especially when they expect Droid X owners to cough up $5 per rental and $18 per purchase for a film that cannot be displayed using the HDMI port :/

yeah i dont see myself using it anyway maybe its a last ditch effort to try and revive blockbuster, sadly it wont happen. Now and days everyone rents online and gets it alot cheaper from netflix or something like that rather then blockbuster

I was surprised when blockbuster even did a deal with motorola. They are closing all around the country because when they had the chance to redo their business model they didn't cause they underestimated netflix. So I'm not surprised they are broke.

I think netflix would have been a big seller especially if they had something similar to plans they do now for 9.99 a month. I personally would get that instead

The biggest problem with the built in apps is that they can't be updated. For instance on the incredible you are stuck with the facebook that it comes with. Even rooting won't work because it's a special version of facebook for sense. Googlemaps was updatable though. goggles is aftermarket but then you cant remove it.

Well the Netflix app for the iPhone/iPad is free just sign in with your account and your good to go! I love netflix. Have it on my 360 and ipad and it's awesome.

You can download Facebook for Android from the Market and it will install the updated version over the one that came with the stock Incredible. Of course there's still the FriendStream stuff stuck on there which I've never opened the entire time I've had the phone.

yeah, my girl uses it all the time. it finds redboxs near you through gps and tells you what is in stock at the nearest ones. whats new, etc.

My immediate thought was that Verizon is getting ready to buy Blockbuster. There is an infrastructure for content delivery in place and a huge database. They could be purchased on the cheap and provide total revenue control to a company like Verizon. The retail stores could be shut down and open RedBox style delivery systems outside of Verizon Wireless stores. The On-demand component is already in place with Fios for the home, so rebranding that with expanded selection would be easy.

On their own merits, Blockbuster doesn't appeal to me at all but turn them into a media content vehicle partnered with Verizon and you could be on to something.

In the interest of full disclosure, I do work for Verizon but these comments are purely conjecture. I have absolutely no inside information.

This ability for blockbuster to sell it's digitized library may have nothing to do the the brick and mortar stores. Maybe Verizon will buy the library at some point and absorb it in vcast.

So are we able to place our "legally" ripped movies onto the phone and watch them? That's what I'm worried about. I have the lot of my DVD collection ripped so I can watch them on the go.. I'm not so worried about playing them through the HDMI as I am watching them to myself on road trips or what not.

I wonder if it breaks the contact sync. I thought on the Sense phones it does. Would be interesting to know. Maybe it was just the fools who deleted it after rooting.

Yeah, you could be right -- it might break the sync, but I'm fussy about my contacts and keep the phone ones separate from Facebook folks. I looked through my Settings > Manage Applications list and there's still a "Facebook for HTC Sense" (a mere 8.00KB!) listed there alongside Facebook for Android, so you can probably still sync.

Seems to me like blockbuster is pulling a circuit city. Closing stores because they made such crappy choices and doing an online only dealio where they can continue to rip us off. Maybe if they only charged a buck to rent a movie that can only be played on my phone, sure. Even then, i'd barely ever use it because of my short attention span and love of multitasking.

At some point they would look at themselves and everyone else and say "wait...people can get a movie for $1 a night from redbox. But we're charging $3.99. Hmmm...guess redbox is losing out on that extra $3! Succkeeeerrrrsss!". They...just...won't...learn

Personally, i do a mix of different things. Netflix 3 out at a time + watch instantly, redbox and rent movies through playstation network when i'm desperate to see something that's not in stock

I only pay 21.99 a month to have any movie or game out at a time with no late fees. Not sure if any of that will translate into the Blockbuster android app but we'll see. No playback through HDMI to your TV is weak though.

LOL. Maybe I am. When I was kid I'd go over to Grandma's and watch Herby on her movie disk player which required 2 large plastic squares to be slotted into a machine to see a completed movie, LOL. Oh man...Elvis in Acapulco was so awesome, just hated when the screen went blank and one of us had to volunteer to get up and slip part 2 in and out like a gigantic ATM card!
