Help Battery Charge Trick: Hardware or Software issue?

As you all know, if you charge your phone normally until the green light turns on, most of you will notice that the percentage goes from 100% down to 90% in a matter of minutes, due to the phone not really charging the battery to 100% even when the green light comes on. In order to truly charge our phones to 100%, we must charge it with the phone turned off (the battery trick.) My question is, is this a physical hardware limitation design on the phone, or something that can be corrected via a firmware update?

To be clear, to fully charge the battery you need to charge it with the phone off until the light turns green, then unplug it & back in & wait for the light to turn green again.... And maybe repeat one more time. This is what people refer to as "bump charging".

I've also read that you should turn thee phone on & back off again in between chargings but I'm not sure if that really matters (not dating it doesn't, I'm just not sure).

I'm pretty sure as long as your phone is off while it is charging it will let you charge it to 100% and stay there. People are saying that when you leave the phone ON while charging it, even though the light turns green it isn't 100% charged, which is why it drops to 90% so fast. So if you charge your phone during the night and need it on because you use it as your alarm, what people suggest is leaving the phone on while charging the whole night, then when your alarm wakes you up in the morning you unplug the phone, turn it off, then plug it back in and wait until the led light turns green again to insure that the battery is FULLY charged.

1) Charge the phone with the phone turned off until the charge status light turns green (either overnight or once you wake up)

2) Unplug the phone

3) Power cycle (turn it on, then off again as soon as it has booted up)

4) Plug it back in

5) The charge status light will either be red or orange and will take quite a while - maybe 15-30 minutes - to turn green again

6) Repeat steps 2-5 again (the charge status light will take less time to turn green on each repetition)

I have found that doing this "bump charging" technique significantly improves how long the battery will last you.

the reason u need to charge is because u turned the phone on and then off wihch takes battery power lol

if you really want to test it, when the phone is off unplug it then plug it back in, should be green, or only amber for a few seconds

bump charging is when ur phone is ON and u charge it til green, then turn off the phone and then it will be amber and will fully charge in about 20 minutes

Exactly. Li-Ion batteries slow down their charge rate as they approach full capacity. The charging circuitry monitors the current and waits for it to slowly drop to about 10% of the current it takes to reach 4.2V. So, 15-20 minutes of being in amber when the battery is very nearly charged might only give you an extra 2% or so.

Li-Ions charge like this. The charger applies 4.2v until the cells themselves reach 4.2v. They're at about 70% capacity at this point. Then it lets them continue charging until the current drops to 10% of what it took to reach 4.2v, then it shuts it off.

"lol" yourself, dude.

Having the phone on for 30 seconds doesn't take that much power.

You'll get the safe effect to a lesser degree even without the power cycle.
