i installed this app and it's great because i can kill processes that i don't need. however, whenever i launch the app, i see apps in the list that i never open (i.e. moxier mail, claendar, alarm clock...). i will kill them but then they re-appear again.

how do they started in the background if i never open them??

Hi from what I can tell from playing around with my phone and a lot of googleing there seems to be no way to stop them at mo as there part of the silly SE UXI. But from what I can tell a rooted X10 gets ride of the defalut sony apps (I tryed unistalling them but nothing lol) so they will no longer run in background and I belive you can control what runs and when with a rooted phone. I could be wrong but this is what I have found.

The reason you see lots off apps showing up is not due to Sony but it's the way Android operates.

It keeps apps killed but on the verge of booting as it's quicker to launch them. If you watch "Top Gear" on the BBC there was a car on there once that, when you was in 3rd gear the gear box had 2 clutches one that had second gear ready and one that had 4th gear ready so what ever way you went in the gear box the next obvious gear you could want was already selected.

That is how android works and that is why app killers are a waste of time as you can kill every thing but android will bring them back to life.

If there is apps you dont want to start at all the get "start up auditor" its on the market and cost a few

I am using the "Start up Auditor" app from the marketplace. I have the free version which allows you to stop up to 5. If you want more you have to buy the Pro version.

I stop Moxier Mail, Face Recognition, Google Talk Service, Sony Ericsson Sync, voice dialer.

These are things I do not use. They do not load and stay out of the memory.

like noted above, I stay away from the Android OS programs.:)

@Madmax56 thanks for the tips for the free startup auditor. at least i can kill five silly apps that i do not use.

i can understand keeping them around so they launch quicker, still users should be able to pick and choose which apps. after all, the x10 does not come with a huge amount of RAM. those silly apps just take up ram and slow the device down.

I have the same boxes checked. I know for sure I powered the phone off and then on again. I might of even taken the back off, removed the battery waited 30 seconds and then put the battery back in and restarted. Not sure but that should do it.

The ones you selected to disable should show in the list of programs within the Start up Auditor app as grey and say disabled as opposed to green and saying enabled.

Give it a try and let me know if it works.

Cheers

ok, i know for sure i had powered off the phone after i made the selections before. i will do it again and this time remove the battery.
while we are on the battery topic, when using pc companion, it says 'remove the battery for 5-10 seconds, then back it back'. what is really the reason for such step? powering off the phone alone does not do the trick?

** update... i think removing the battery may have done the trick. still don't know that step is important.

When I installed it I noticed that Moxier still appeared.
I turned the phone off then on and Moxier mail no longer appears.

If you use a task killer app, I use Advanced Task Killer Free, I made sure that I put Startup Auditor on my ignore list.

I don't want to kill the app that is trying to prevent my unwanted programs from starting.

great point! the task manager was killing the startup auditor. i just added it to the ignore list and it seems to be working good. it's not a bad idea to purchase the commercial version to disable more than 5 apps.
