Help Data Call Failure: Error Code 67

I just got my Hero Weds. Got the error code 67 last night called sprint tech and the tech told me that this happens to newly activated phones. He got me up and running and no problems since.

He even told me that Google hero is an open program phone and that he gave me information on how to search to root the phone. So to answer alot of questions they dont care that you have rooted your phone. I asked him what if i screw something up he told to just call and they will be able to help me get it back to original factory settings.

I was kinda in shock since I thought rooting a phone was a back door to removing there junk they put on and he is telling me that I definitely need to do this..

Very interesting response from sprint tech support.

Are you surpirse, you can call Sprint 10 times and get 10 different responses, nothing new there, I will give you an example, just yesterday I called Sprint asking them how to update my wife phone for her PRL, because she does not have a data plan on her phone. He said you can update via OTA and will not cost me, I said OK, LOL I know I will get a charge when the bill comes in but I made him note to make sure they credit it when I do, LOL, but to make a long story short, I asked him what PRL version was available for her phone, just for the heck of it, I knew it was 60667, and that she had 60658 on hers, he said hers should be 60662, LOL, I said no, he said yes, I said may I update via OTA, he said go ahead, I said OK, I updated and guess what I was right 60667, he said it was different for each phone, I said no way Jose, then he said his computer was not updated with the proper info, Then I asked him what was the latest SW version for her phone as she was on Version 4, he said that was the latest, I said again, may I update via OTA, he said go a head, and guess what version 5 was the latest, LOL so like I said you ask 10 and you will get 10 difference responses. Thus the reason why if you do not get somewhere with one tech support you try another!!!!

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!! Let me tell I have the HTC EVO 4G and the ERROR Code 67 User name and password are incorrect. Well let me tell you all Sprint Disable all the modem features on all there phones smarts as well. There is nothing wrong with youusr phone you just cant use is as a modem. However you can go to the market place on you phone and download pdanet for free and then go to pdanet website and download the desktop version for android and follow the instructions and you are on the internet. This is the real scoop. Unless you par 30.00 for the hotspot wifi you will not be able to use phone as modem Hope this helps every one

I have used PDAnet for quite some time now and it works flawlessly for me. I even paid the $18 fee or what ever it was for the license and it works great. I have never tried to use the phones built in tether so I can't offer an opinion on the loss there but PDAnet is the way to go. Totally works around sprint. But when data caps go into effect in the coming years it may become an issue. Good things never last forever.......................

I can't remember if this has been posted, but I know this has come up a lot (especially with me) recently if you're not even trying to tether. The main issue being that when "roaming" the phone will try to log in to the opposite carriers service for data, in doing so you get the same error code (67).

Edit: To find out this may only be part of a solution. I've also tried the "update your profile while using wifi" method to also hopefully cure this problem. Only time will tell

yes this means that either the username or password on the phone is incorrect or there is a provisioning error on sprints side.

fixes

1. preform a reset on the device by going to menu<<settings<<about phone<<system updates<<update profile

2. if that doesn't work the call sprint *2 from another sprint phone or 888-211-4727 and ask for advanced technical support. once you speaking with ATS,, tell them the error code,, they will more than likely have you reset the device again after changing some network elements

but in most cases the reset will fix the issue... now if you were to get a survey based on this call today for customer satisfaction would you be able to say I resolved your issue..... crap gotta remember im not at work...

I have the EVO 4G and I was getting the same error message. So I did all this. I spent nearly an hour with them on the phone doing all sorts of updates and such. Then 10 minutes after it was supposedly fixed, I'm getting that same error message again.

I think I may need to go to an actual Sprint location. I'm at a loss here.

Figured I'd chime in here. The other day I experienced this issue for 24 hours. Essentially my phone was useless to me. My phone constantly gave this message, and I was stuck in roaming the entire time. I could make phone calls, but that was it.

Troubleshooting:
1. Tried to update my profile > Couldn't be done, since I was roaming.
2. Rebooted > No difference.
3. Drove to Sprint, no longer roaming, updated profile successfully, rebooted, everything appeared fine. Drove back home > Error and Roaming resumed.
4. Accessed the hidden menu, input MSL number, reset profile, rebooted, and updated profile. Issue was resolved for about 1 minute and then it switched back to roaming and Error Code 67.
5. Called Sprint to find out if a tower or something went out (we recently had a storm), but they had nothing down in my zip code.
6. Turned my phone off for most of the day/night, just let it charge (being in roaming drains the battery like whoa, cause it's searching for Sprint the entire time). At the end of the night I was still getting the error.
7. Went to sleep, woke up, issue was resolved. No reboot, no profile update, nothing. It was just "fixed" while I slept. I did go ahead and update my profile to make sure it worked and also rebooted just to make sure it "stuck".

Conclusion:
Reboot
Update profile
If that doesn't fix it, wait.

the sprint tech that helped me said they never got this many error 67's until they brought android to their network, from what I understand it is a data error, i.e. you've got something running in the background that requires a data connection (like the weather widget that constantly syncs weather), and when you are roaming for some reason whatever tower you are roaming off of blocks that data connection and you get the error message.

I did all the stuff with tech support through ##3282# and I haven't had it since, however I haven't roamed since I did it either, we"ll just have to see

I've spoken to sprint dozens of times with this issue. Since the beginning of June I've been sent 3 replacement phones to fix it---2 of the phones were returned because they weren't in great shape when they arrived. I've done soft-resets and hard, factory resets, re-activations and just about everything else you can imagine. Then it gets really odd...

Over the course of this error code 67 problem numerous technicians at sprint tech support (and advanced tech support) have looked at my account and done what they thought would rectify the situation. 2-3 times they've actually changed my username. The most recent tech looked at my account for about 3 seconds and said "aha!". Apparently my username was too long. His convoluted explanation said that towers and servers timed out too quickly on longer ---usernames and that they should be shorter. Sounds completely made up, but I've not had any error codes since---for comparison, I had more than 1-2 a day for an entire week leading up to this.

So do we all check our usernames and request shorter ones? No idea here...BTW, my username was 14 characters @sprintpcs.com and is now half that.

I think they gave you a bunch of BS, but hey if it's working for you then go with it. IMO if you ask a sprint tech person one question, then ask the same question to 5 other techs there, they will each give you either different answer or solutions. Here is the funny part and try this for yourself, if you ask a sprint CS person about call lag they will say they have not had any issues with that, if you tell them about battery issue, they will say we have not had any complaints about it, if you ask them about random reboots, nope never heard on that, etc.....

I'm not suggesting that this resolved my issue or that it is legit---notice I posted this as "another ridiculous explanation"---its just an odd thing that ATS told me. The strange thing is that I've not had the same issue (code 67) since. I dunno what to think.

I have an htc hero for sprint and was trying to do tethering (using hero to let my laptop go online) and kept getting the failure 67 message.

for data failure error 67 try menu> settings> wireless & networks> make sure internet sharing box is NOT checked.

then do menu> settings> connect to pc> default connection type and make sure you have NOT selected internet sharing.

this has fixed the repeated error 67 message that will continually pop up.

I called Sprint and they had me restore my phone but I still got the problem. The Sprint representative later told me that since they offer Hotspot (29.99/month) they disabled the usb tethering. So there's no real way of getting it for free unless you root it.:(
Unless you use PDAnet but I was hoping to use the built in software without having to install an application on this phone and a computer

Well, I've read this thread and I'm not hopeful I'll find a solution, but not because the valiant folks in this forum haven't tried hard.

I've been getting this Error Code 67 crap for months, and I don't even tether. I've made sure that the internet sharing box is unchecked. I'm able to dismiss it and go back to regular functionality, but it's annoying as all hell to have that message pop up after every little thing I do on the phone.

Nothing has helped that I've tried: soft reset, hard reset/restore, on/off. And after reading the thread, I'm not going to waste my time with CS...

*sigh*
