"Help, my Incredible was stolen" thread

So I was at a local hangout place in the town I live. It is called Tubbs Hill. We jump off the rocks into our lake. I left my bag like I do every day with my Incredible, custom oakleys, keys, and wallet with 20 bucks in it and my license. My bag was just right up the hill from where we were. I came back for a towel after like 30 minutes and my bag was gone....Everything in there, about 600 worth of stuff gone. So now I am phoneless for who knows how long because of it being out of stock, have no sunglasses, and no license. O and I had one key to my car so I have to pay for a locksmith. Today sucks.

Sorry to hear. Did you make sure to call VZW to have them black list the ESN?

Yes I did. Also just canceled the phone because I tried calling it and they would just ignore. I don't have that app to track it either. When I get my replacement it will be the first app I put on there. I encourage everyone to use this app, you may not think you need it like I did, but it might come in handy for you.

Thievery! One of the worse crimes in my book because those people are just lazy and selfish. Hope you had insurance.
I wish there was just some good reliable remote wipe apps out for Android. I won't put a banking app on my DInc until I get one. I asked Verizon why they don't offer remote wipe and they told me they rely on the manufacture to provide that. I would think Google being the maker of Android could just put a remote wipe option for the phone through our Gmail account since everyone has to have one to initialize an Android phone....makes sense.
Speaking of which, anyone use SMS Erase? recommend it or not? reliable? privacy concerns?

If my phone gets stolen, would me changing my Gmail password at home automatically block out my Gmail contacts on the phone since they sinc or does it cache them?

Dude, I am so sorry to hear that. I had a dream the other night my phone was stolen (my roommate was talking about an iPhone he found, ironically he said the calls kept dropping to the point where he tried to return it haha) but I digress. So I had lookout, tracked the phone via gps, then when i got close i used to scream function to pinpoint the exact person and hit them with a bat.

Yeah, weird dream. Moral of the story: use lookout and carry a bat.

Haha, I will be sure to do this from now on.

You must really love your phone to have dreams about it... :D

I love mine too, just not that much!

That sucks man. Sorry :(.

Does anyone know of an app that will just turn on GPS via a SMS without other map features? I have google Lat installed and it works fine but I don't turn on my GPS unless needed. If my Dinc is stolen I'd like to just turn on GPS remotely and I could track the phone via Lat and then...... cough ..... deal with the situation.

Well the bag that got stolen is a one of a kind mountain dew bag. So if I see it around town that person is going to be dealt with, with a large blunt object. :D

Got very paranoid and installed Lookout, cant believe it's free! would have gladly played for it, it tracked my phone on my computer within 2 mins! precise location! Am I wrong or does tracking the phone mean that the phone has to have GPS and Wi-Fi/3G ON or it can't be located? Anyway of enabling GPS secretly in the background without the thief knowing, I would pay for that :D

Sorry to hear about your phone, I would be pissed and devastated. Glad to know you have insurance, hope yours arrives soon. IF you do find your phone, I trust you will "deal" with the thiefs!

Do u own ur home? Your bag and contents may be covered by homeowners insurance. Ask ur parents if u live with them. Check auto insurance too. At least u mauy get so money back to cover u and buy new items. Also did u buy with credit card? My purchases are covered in first 90 days against theft, damage, loss. So if u dig a little, u might find ur covered somewhere and get some insurance money to buy new glasses keys phone etc...
sorry bout ur loss. i know ur pain.

Really?! I will check my home and auto insurance to see if it is covered. I didn't buy with a credit card though. So I am hoping insurance will cover it.
