Hey guys, I just published my first app to the Market called GasBot.

GasBot allows you to quickly search all of the gas stations around you to find the best prices. As of right now it just uses your GPS/Cell Tower location to search, but in the near future I'm going to build out a search by address as well.

Let me know what you think, and you can get more info at http://www.gasbot.net.

Also please note, this is trialware. You get two weeks to try out GasBot and after that you'll have to pay for it. It's only $7/yr and compared with the money you'll save using it, I think it'll easily pay for itself. I'd appreciate people not giving me bad ratings in the market because its only a trial as I have to pay my data providers so the margins (for me) are very small.

Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy it! :D

Also if you'd like to suggest any new features, I cruise around here quite a bit so I'll see anything in this thread or my PMs. You can also suggest features through the website.

It's a pretty slick app. Yeah, I've seen the comments. The irony is with those people that if brains were dynamite, they wouldn't have enough to blow their nose. I'm in the Houston area and it works great...for gasoline. Setting it to Diesel gave me a list of stations, but no prices. I suppose there isn't any price data there? Well done though, keep up the good work and don't let the turkeys get you down.

Thanks, yeah I'm looking into the Diesel issue. It appears that there isn't any pricing data, but I'm not sure why as those stations shouldn't even show up in the search results if that's the case. I'll make sure I keep this thread updated when I get that issue resolved. Thanks for the kind words man! :)

Awesome, awesome, awesome app!!! I love it. So much better than the others. The other apps out there rely on users updating the data. That sucks and is never accurate. You actually got it right. Looking forward to updates.

...on the interface...mmm...could use a little snazzing up, but I still love it. 5 star app. Totally worth $7 a year.

I'm working on developing my first app as well. Would love to chat with you about android dev.

Thanks man, I'm up to chat about android development any time. Just shoot me an e-mail at chris@gasbot.net. :)

And yeah I agree on the interface. I think once I'm ready to hit a 1.0 level app I'll invest in a graphic designer to help out! :D

HI,

Just started to use your application. Very accurate vs the other application on the market. I don't even have the GPS on and your able to narrow down the choices (how do you do that???). Which helps save battery life for not having the GPS on.

I will continue to use and see how it goes.

What other application are you working on???

Thanks,

Larry

Thanks, if it can't pull your location from GPS, it will pull it by your cell tower location (not as accurate, but pretty close).

As of right now, GasBot is my one and only project. I have a few bug fixes I'm going to be implementing as well as alot of new functionality coming down the pipe. If I can ever say that GasBot is done and complete I have a few more ideas for apps so we'll see how that goes! :)

Cell towers in Chicago and surrounding area's must be good then since I am keeping the GPS off when I don't need it. Maybe I will compare with it on and off and see what happens.

Larry
Yeah, in any big city there are usually a ton of cell towers which means pretty accurate locating. If you go into Google maps and hit my location with the GPS off, it'll show you where it's calculating your position based on cell tower triangulation.

BTW, where in Chicago? I grew up in Schaumburg and lived near UIC for a while in the Little Italy area by Racine and Harrison. :)

Quick Update: Diesel prices work now!

Just uploaded GasBot v0.8.

This version is mainly for those who were having the SIM card problem where the app would crash when it couldn't read the phone number from the SIM.

But it also fixes the problem where if you went to save your settings a second time in one session that it would freeze the application.

And as I've mentioned before, the Diesel prices work now. (Didn't change anything in the application for this, just figured I'd roll it in with the other fixes.)

Nice idea to narrow down choices.

I will do further testing tommorow but compared to the other application that does this yours is more accurate and up to date.

This can be huge for those that need to drive a truck or travel by car alot.

Keep updating and nice to see "quick" updates at that.

Truly awesome. Thank you very much for the quick fixes (another diesel user here)!
No problem. Let me know if you see any other bugs or have any good feature suggestions. I'd like to have as many features as possible when I roll this out as a 1.0 app.

By then I want to have the by address searching capability in, allow people to get directions to the stations. On the main station listing screen show when that price was last updated and possibly all of the different grades of fuel that they report.
