Does the Droid Eris have a plastic or glass screen?

plastic, not glass like moto or iphone.
I hear you, but its a great device. small so i think the screen won’t scratch too bad. It is Oleophobic.

I've been thinking about this, too. I don't really want to put a screen protector on it because I don't want the air bubbles on there, but I also don't want it to be scratched.

If it's glass, though, it'll be pretty resilient to scratches.

The screen protector I got from the Verizon store not only had air bubbles, but it made the touchscreen really insensitive around the sides. What a waste of money. I'm going au naturel now.

capacitive usually means a glass screen. resistive is the plastic screen. and when i was at the vzw store checking one out, i pressed on it pretty hard at an angle to see if it was a harder plastic, but no, i'm pretty sure its glass like the moto droid.

I just ordered the Invisible Shield screen cover. If installed properly, there are no air bubbles whatsoever. I've had them on multiple devices. I've got one on my iPod Touch, and there is no change in touch sensitivity.

Do NOT use the Zagg invisible shield on your screen! Its by far the WORST screen protector out there. The clarity is awful and the screen protector feels like rubber and grips your finger when sliding it around the screen.

Zagg invisible shield was designed for the BODY of devices not the screens. The material used is NOT fully transparent and its a GLUE based application.

Further more, your Eris does NOT need a body shield since its a matte finish you cant see scratches easily.

Silicon based non-adhesive screen protectors are the ONLY kind of screen protectors you should be buying.

I am using a screen protector that I picked up from the Verizon store. They come in packs of three. Sensitivity is decent and it does not grip your finger.

Yikes, I just got the Zagg screen protector and was going to install it today. It seems to get the best reviews by far for most phones that people use it on. Maybe I'll hold out another day or two for a confirmation on this.

My main concern was the screen being not so smooth and easy to slide your fingers across. Seems like some of the functionality of swiping, etc., would be lost by this.

BUT, my Samsung Omnia has a HUGE gash running down the screen that no plastic polish I've found does anything to fix. And replacing the screen properly (by a trained professional) can be upwards of $100. That's the price of the phone right there!

Really don't want to get any scratches in this. I've been being SO careful while I waited to get my screen protector, but it's only a matter of time...

Your Eris's screen does not have a matte finish. I've had an Invisible Shield on my iPod Touch ever since I bought it and haven't had any issues. I agree that you don't need the FULL Invisible Shield due to the soft-touch paint, but the screen is the focal point of your phone. The extra amount of tackiness has never been a problem for me. Also, the adhesive Zagg uses doesn't stay on your device when you choose to remove them. If there is a tiny amount, just use a little rubbing alcohol to remove it.

Grimster obviously feels strongly about not using Zagg products, which is fine, but they definitely won't harm your device or make it any less responsive.

Mine shipped yesterday, so I'll let everyone know if performance is affected at all once I install it. I don't foresee any problems.

Zagg shield is intended for the BODY of portable devices. Its a HORRIBLE product to use on the screen because, again, its NOT fully transparent, its thicker that silicon based protectors which can reduce screen touch sensitivity and on top of that its has a rubbery feel to it that grips your finger and prevents it from sliding around on the screen, its an adhesive GLUE based application which is why its so unclear.

The material has a rubbery feel to it because it was designed to cover the BODY of devices that are held in your hand so they wont slip out. This is the OPPOSITE of what you want on your screen.

Ive been using screen protectors for many years and this is by FAR the worse SCREEN protector out there. Dont get me wrong, Its a fantastic body protector just dont put that material on you screen.

I keep my phone in my pocket and have found that after weeks of pulling the phone in and out, the flimsy little screen protectors that you speak of usually start to peel off around the corners, pocket lint gets under them, etc. Maybe that's why Verizon includes 3 of them in the pack? Maybe I've just never purchased a quality non-adhesive based product.

I'm not trying to argue with you just for the sake of it. I really do like the Zagg product--even as a screen protector only. I agree with you about the full body coverage as well--it would look ridiculous on the Eris.

Just to throw my 2cents in, I currently have the Zagg invisible shield on my ipod Touch, and put one on the wifes curve for almost a year. When she upgraded her phone, i sold the curve on craigslist and removed the invisible shield from the curve and it looked brand new. No residue, not hard to remove. And more than likely, ill be buying one for the new Eris. I understand why some people have an aversion to zagg, different strokes for diff folk. But to say its "the worst protector" out there and that it "makes the screen feel like rubber" just isn't true. If It were, it wouldn't consistently be the highest rated protector out.

I also got the Verizon screen protectors. It works perfectly if you put it on right. No sensitivity issues or bubbles here.

For what it's worth, I'm running my Eris naked and managed to scratch the screen after only 3 days of ownership. Not sure how I did it, and you can't see it unless the screen is off, but definitely noticable in daylight.
