i want to listen to music using the car's speakers and charge the phone at the same time. i have one cigarette adapter hole, and i currently have a micro usb charger plugged in to it. is there a way to do both? i prefer nothing too bulky or over $35

I haven't tried it yet with the evo but... i got a cheapo fm transmitter from compusa for like $13. It works well but if i tried to charge the ohone and run that youd get a aweful high pitched noise. Without chargeing the ohkne it wohld wkrk fine tho.

That was wjh my old moment, i haven't tried to charge my ebo while useing it het but i asume it woild do the same tjing. Im currently looking to get a kenwood headunit with a built in usb port and a 3.5 mm jack so that maybe it will have ainternal ground loop iolator and it won't make that noise.

It would help if you provided some other information, as well. What kind of head unit do you have? Does it have a USB and/or 3.5mm auxiliary input? Do you want a dock as well? An FM modulator can be a last resort if you have neither. Using your auxiliary input will allow you to listen to music (including streaming music like Pandora), make calls, listen to navigation, and any other audio through your stereo. A USB input will allow you to dock your phone like a hard-drive and play mp3 files off of it.

As for the noise while charging, you need a ground loop isolator. It isn't always the end-all solution, but I have seen these regularly work with some success.

Here is what i want.... I am looking for a USB micro connection that has 2 connections on the other side... one that i can hardwire into 12V power (to charge) and the other would be a standard RCA output. That way you can power off of the head unit and have a hard wired connection to the AUX input... When your pushin 2 15's you cant have any of that modulated trash...ya know. Anyone know where i can get this or where i can get this made. And i do know that i would have to have some sort of app running to push audio outta the usb (also any suggestions?). Wouldnt hurt to have all of this integrated into a car mount so you can drop and play!

Well, AFAIK from this thread there's no way to play music over the USB port on the EVO. If you don't mind wires, you'll need a male 3.5mm mini to male stereo RCA to get audio to your head unit, and a micro usb to charge the phone. Since the phone only takes 5V, you'll probably have to dig up some sort of transformer to change it to a compatible 5V (this is all assuming you're hard wiring and not going via car adapter).

Alternatively, for audio, you can get something like this to allow a wireless bluetooth connection to a standard AUX in. It includes a 3.5mm to RCA cable. You can dodge a second wire that way, though the audio quality won't be quite as good as a dedicated hardwired AUX.

Now, I suppose in theory, it'd be possible to combine everything into a single dock, though they don't exist yet. I use a BluRidge for the most part, and plug in the phone if it happens to need a charge.

EDIT: As a side note, if your head unit supports USB sticks, you can mount your SD card as a disk on your head unit, which might then play/charge at once, assuming your head unit can provide enough power to the USB port to compensate for the Evo's power draw. But if you need AUX in or your unit doesn't support USB drives, you'll have to do a different setup.

well i already have the 1/8 in headphone jack input and the standard usb charger all hooked up and i hate all the wires that is y i suggested this. and as for some devil....get rid of that cassette player ... that stock sh*t stanks. mounting the SD card is a good idea but i only listen to Pandora. I never even loaded any music on the SD.

Love the bluetooth reciever but i gotta question the quality at 145 Db... I try to stay wired if possible.

I like how you try to reference sound quality while you thumb your nose at "stanky" solutions for other unique consumers, yet go on as though Pandora is a high quality source for your "non-stanky" system. That said, people concerned with dB's and the surface area of their subwoofers usually don't notice compression anyways.

Devil, if you don't have an auxiliary input and want to maintain the factory look of your vehicle, then the cassette adapter is a great/cheap alternative.

aweful lot of haters out there. do you actually have anything to contribute to this conversation or are you just wasting time? and who said any thing about compression? compression is a way of life now. I was refurring to wireless transmission, and yes the more the compression the worse it sounds but i guess i couldnt expect you to notice that on a tape player.

This works for your evo? Can you play pandora? My car has no Aux input, how does this work? Do you tune your FM to a certain freq and walla?

I know this is not the audiophile solution, but hey it's pandora not SACD.
Thanks!

this will work without an aux judging by the looks of the product. yeah, you set the transmitter to transmit to a freq, and you tune to it on your fm radio.

are there any good fm transmitters for under 10 dollars? i dont like the ones with docks, just a cable with the transmitting part

Lol. I have one that was $7 from biglots. Works great. Sounds as good as anything can over FM... which isn't exactly perfect... but it's good enough for most people.

gotta love it when ignorant people get on the computer and run their mouth ex. like stating that the surface area of a speaker is the same as the diameter. And vincent , do you know me? have you heard anything out of my stereo? i dont think so, so how bout you stop assuming , its not my fault you have a grudge with some kid in your neighborhood playing it loud and sounds like crap. When did this thread become me against the world? this is about playing music in the car off your phone pretty sad this is the longest thread in this conversation. o and btw i was making a statement that fm transmitters sound like crap so whatever forget all you haters. ..... and go ahead and remove this post again...
