Help HTC Desire Bluetooth cannot find devices

Hi everyone. My boss has a new stock HTC Desire, he also performed an upgrade to the latest firmware.

Now it won't find anything when using "Search for devices" option.
It can be discovered by other devices if I set it to be discoverable, but it cannot detect any new devices, no phones no computers or bluetooth extension devices.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? Any ideas how to fix it? We would like to pair it with a Parrot Minikit Slim handsfree kit.

I searched the forum but couldn't find any relevant topic...

It's independent of being discoverable, even if I turn that on, it still can't find anything with Bluetooth device search. Obviously we cannot pair the handsfree kit in the other direction, because it doesn't have a search function. But the HTC Desire can't see the laptop or the other phone either.

Do you think factory reset would make it work again?

Obvious but is the device you're trying to find in discoverable mode?

I seem to have the same problem. My Desire finds several Bluetooth devices, but not my headsets. I've tried multiple ways to eliminate errors, such as turning on/off wifi, rebooting etc but nothing seems to work.

The Desire "sees" several computers around me, but neither of my two Sony Ericsson bluetooth headsets. I would guess that it somehow is related to the backwards compatibility of the Bluetooth. But, silly to get a new great phone and then have to buy a new headset?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I called HTC support, and they made a full support job of the issue, saying they had never heard it before. (yeah right)

i have the same problem with my desire!! seems like 1-way traffic. it cannot find other devices but can be discovered by my laptop. when it did finally connect with my laptop, it says that my laptop is a "media audio device"

Hi, thanx for that. I thought the device was in pair mode but after reading the device manual, I realised it wasn't.

Have same problem and the headset (a Jabra Clipper) is in pairing mode and can be connected to the pc no problem.
Tried hard reset & factory reset via menu, no luck.
Next I'll try and root it, to see if that might help.

I succesfully connected nokia bh-103 with htc desire. The procedure:
1. Switch on the headset and then hold the power button for 4 seconds until you will see green light blinking
2. Enable bluetooth on htc desire and start scanig
3. After succesfully pairing you can start listening music

I can browse the files on HTC Desire from other blue-tooth devices but I cannot use the HTC Desire to browse other blue-tooth devices?????

Okay...that's all well and good for headsets but I'm having difficulty pairing my Desire with my 2010 Nissan Titan in-built car-kit. My old Treo 750 picked it up first go but I cannot get the Desire to 'see' this handsfree unit. It paired with my iPad and my laptop within seconds but no go on the car unit. Any ideas anyone??

HI guys,

This is my first post, I only just got the HTC desire on the weekend.

I am having the same problem as many mention,,, my HTC desire finds all bluetooth devices but not my hands free car kit,,,

I read about the phone not being in "pair mode"??
I make my phone visible and click find devices at the same time that I press my car kit to find the phone,,, but nothing happens,,, cannot find each other..

any help would be much appreciated as I am not looking forward to having to buy and install a new hands free kit

Pairing with devices can be a pita because the device you want to pair with HAS to be put into a state where it can be discovered by the Desire unlike a lot of BT devices which can simply scan and connect.

When I tried to pair with my headset the first time it wouldnt connect at all - or so I thought - I was literally doing my nut in over it, but, and this I think is possibly something that a lot of users might not realise, the Desire pairs but doesnt indicate it! So in all the attempts I was trying to get it to pair, it was ALREADY paired but NOT showing it as being.......DOH!!

So I would check that it is NOT paired first, ie, try it out......you never know it might be paired and just not showing up!

As to the car kits, I would read the manual (Car kit) and see what steps you need to do to put the device into a pairable state and try it that way.

I have an old nokia car kit, will check tonight on the manual which one exactly is
I know the phone is not pairing because the car kit makes a fail sound after searching and not pairing,,, so definetly not pairing

The phone does however find other bluetooth and shows them on the screen, but not the car kit

I will read the manual tonight and see if there is something else I can do, however I always followed the same procedure to pair all phones and I never had this issue

Hi guys,

I finally managed to pair my desire to my Nokia ck-7W car kit

I read on the car kit manual that you can reset the kit by pressing the button when the device is off. So I did that and after abour 20-30seconds you can hear a beep

I then tried to pair the Desire, and voila,,, all working now

Still not sure why I needed to reset it first as never had to do that before, but this might help other people

I regularly have issues connecting my motorola S9 headset with my desire and find that the most succesful way of doing it is to first turn bluetooth on (on the desire) after about 30 secs turn on headset but make sure headset is in close proximity to the phone and this should usually connect. Know this is probably not much help to those trying to pair as my headset is already paired but just thought I'd highlight the fact that the bluetooth on the desire is pretty crap in general (until connected) so you're not alone!
I also have the same issues with my car headset (also motorola) and find that the same usually works for that too.

Incidently I use a bluetooth quick toggle on my homescreen.

Have the same problem with a new HTC Desire Android 2.2. Ran through the bluetooth pairing with my IN Car Bluetooth Phone & Audio & they connected. The system will anser an incoming call, but as soon as the call is disconnected the HTC Desire drops the Phone connection. Phone and Car Unit says the pairing is established, but the Phone connection is lost. The only way to reconnect is to reboot and reprogram the connection from scratch....

This is not acceptable... my BlackBerry phone works consistently with no issues.

Browsing the Web...their are lots of complaints about the HTC bluetooth implementation... HTC please fix this ASAP...you are loosing business due to this issue. In our province in car blue pairing is criti

Ditto on the previous message in this thread. I to cannot get my bluetooth to work properly in my car. keep getting similar symptoms as a lot of the others who have posted.
Whilst i am having a go, i think the HTC desire's loudspeaker is really poor; it reverberates at low volumes compared to many other phones including the Nokia 95 and older Blackberrys. This discovery has come about as a result of the bluetooth not working and i having to rely on the loudspeaker in my car. A shame as the desire seems to be a fine phone software-wise. HTC please fix. Camera not too fantastic either regardless of the amount of megapixels quoted.

HEY, HTC!!! ARE YOU READING THIS STUFF?

There is without a doubt a firmware / software defect in the pairing and connecting of (as a minimum) simple Bluetooth headsets. I have several handsfree devices and the Jawbone and Jabra have two distinctly different pairing issues, that do NOT occur with my basic Nokia idiot phone.

The Jawbone will not connect unless I disable the WiFi. OK, I figured that out but that's silly.

The Jabra STONE2, a beautiful handsfree product, will pair initially. It will even work one time. But any successive attempts to connect fail. Curiously, when I activate Bluetooth on the HTC, the STONE2 appears in the list of paired devices. But when I select that paired device in the menu it disappears from that menu and the display reads that the device was disconnected. Even though it never acknowledged being connected to begin with. All other paired devices connect automatically. This STONE2 connects automatically with my ancient Nokia without any problem.

HTC!!! FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!

I wonder if this has something to do with WiFi and Bluetooth being on the same frequency and interfering with each other? I have heard of this before. Having said that I am having similar problems and have already tried disabling wifi to no avail.
