It's a girl!

Well my wife and I went and she had an ultrasound done this morning and we found out we are having another little girl! We already have one, she's only 7 and I'm afraid that with her being an only child and daddy's only little girl for this long that she's gonna get extremely jealous. But as of now.. she is excited to know she is gonna be a big sister and gonna have a baby sister..

Thanks again everyone! Ok, so I thought up the name Sally (after my mom) Marie (after her mom) and thought it had a good ring to it.. But my wife says it sounds to old! Now tell me people, how can a name sound to old? I would really appreciate feedback.

First of all, congratulations man. I know you've done it before but this is still an exciting time in your life. Pat yourself on the back!

I agree though that Sally seems like an old persons name. It's like Helga or something...just too old.

Marie is more of a middle name (and probably one of the most common at that).

I'm a fan of taking semi-common names and spelling them a bit differently. But that's just me. If you don't mind me asking, what did you name your other daughter? Was it a common name or something not so common?

We named her Phoenix Ariel. But see, Sally is getting put in there because it was my mom's name and she passed away last year, so I'm not backing down on that..

Well I , for one, like it. It's got a nice sound to it. Also a very nice tribute to your late mother and the classics never go out of style (Helga is not a classic ), imo.

It's getting closer, it looks like the baby may come early. Not sure how early though, maybe in October. I'm getting kind of nervous.

I do understand the concern on "sally" being an older name. My grandfathers name was Elbert which was more common almost 100 years ago when he was born. However, don't hear of too many Elbert's today.

I have nothing wrong with more "classical" names however, I do think they are hit an miss and I do understand the concern over it.

With that said congradulations! It is nice to see people actually happy about having kids! It makes all the difference in the world as far as being a good parent goes imho.

As far as names go I am quite fond of greek names myself. My girlfriend and I have actually considered when/if we decide to have kids after college naming it Persephone If it is a girl and we have no decided if it is a boy but, I'm pushing hard for Kratos.

I'm in favor of gender identity via amniocentesis to find out what's up in there, helps a great deal with name selection, unless you're both into names like Pat or Stacy or other names used for boys or girls.

It also can help with preparing for other challenges, if such things show up in the lab work from that fluid, etc.

I gather this is your second child.. again, congratulations and best wishes for a long, healthy life for the brand new person on their way into you and your family's lives.
