Does PDAnet work on Droid?

As a long term BB user, I was disappointed to find out I could no longer tether when I got my new Droid. The most common fix I've seen on the web seems to be PDAnet.

I was wondering if anyone was already using it and how it worked? Also concerned how it will impact Vz contract?

There's a few tethering options. As far as PDANet goes, here are my results:

- PDANet USB tethering works perfectly
- PDANet Bluetooth DUN tethering connects properly but gives DNS errors when trying to hit any website not named google

Tested on a netbook running Win 7 Ultimate.

YMMV.

1) Has anyone done this successfully on a Droid from Vz?

2) I didn't get anything but a flimsy "Getting Started" brochure when I bought my Droid. Is it against their Terms to load it and what worst case if they find out?

I have seen it working over USB (all other network connections disabled, still getting search results from google and amazon), so yes.

The bluetooth dun on pdanet, on the other hand, I haven't seen working. The first PC couldn't even ping the gateway, and then the second PC could never see the DUN service from the phone, so didn't even get to the point of a network. USB is faster anyway and it's not a bad plan to charge while tethering, so I would be okay with $29 for USB tethering.

Vz plans to offer a tethering plan for $30 a month for droids starting in 2010. I'd put good money that it's against the ToS to install your own tethering application, and I don't know what the consequences would be if you were caught. Possibly you may have agreed to get signed up for the tethering plan, or you could have service terminated, or they may give you a warning as long as you aren't downloading DVD torrents across their network.

Nobody but Vz can say what would happen. It's their contract and their discretion if they catch you breaking it.

I have been using PDAnet and my provider is Verizon and it works well, not perfect but good. You will have to go online and get the full owners manual. It's 54 pages and downloads in PDF. droidmanual.pdf

1- Yes with the same results as El Blacksheep.

2- Yes you will violate their terms of service.

Kicker is- I'm still on a Alltel plan that actually gives me Unlimited internet. So I can safely argue against them if they want to say I violate the TOS.

1 - Yes, it works great with Droid on VZ. Heck, it work great on many phones on VZ

2 - Yes, you will violet their TOS. But, what's life without some excitement?

USB connection tether works great. Super fast 3G speed. Bluetooth on the other hand, some sites not showing up. Not exactly sure why, might be because it is still beta for bluetooth.

I tried loading PDAnet on my XP laptop and Droid following the instructions and I get an error=720 when connected. I contacted PDAnet twice with no responce in 24 hours. There does not appear to be many settings on the laptop to help with this error. It seems like a driver conflict or login conflict. Anyone else seen this?

To the op,

Got rid of or home dsl several months ago, just use droids now. Rooted, se we use lots of wifi connecting, but I also use pdanet, I purchased the full edition.
I go well over the mythical 5gb limit that people claim is the limit on the unlimited data plan, mostly due to watching streaming movies on netflix when tethered to the laptop.
No issues with verizon.
