Battery problems, quirks and issues: Read first.

I plugged my phone back in. I'm too chicken to let it die.

I've cycled mine about three times in the last week and have seen a great deal of improvement out of the battery. Since I am in school most of the week I keep my phone on me and use it constantly during the free time I have between classes and during breaks. I'd say I usually average a light heavy usage on a daily basis and it still takes me all I can do to kill the battery when I decided to kill the battery. I was a little worried at first but now I am as confident as I can be that the battery isn't a problem. With adjustments in usage and eliminating widgets and IM that constantly ping or update it may be possible to extend the batter further than what we've experience so far.

I'm still cycling mine and I've had it almost two weeks now. This is being too much of a PITA to deal with, frankly. I'm going to try and do yet another complete discharge and then a powered-off charge + the USB topup, but i've done that already and I've yet to see a real difference.

Unfortunately, this was my experience as well. Maybe try swapping it out for another one.

Have you used spare parts to check the % of time your phone is actually running? That was one of my biggest issues at first, some app was causing my phone to run 95% of the time and draining my battery really quick.

Now, after clean up my apps and doing a handful of full discharges I am doing pretty good. Yesterday it came off the charger at 10am and was at 50% when I got home from the bar after midnight with moderate usage all day.

This is a good idea for those who are still seeing significant battery drain even after a few battery conditioning cycles.

*update* 62 Hours since last charge and sitting at 30%... Might get to 72 hours, we'll see!

So it's starting to finally wind down, after a lot of texting and calls today I am sitting at 5% it's been almost 78 hours. It may make it to 80 hours, or it may make it to 90, guess we'll see how it looks when I wake up in the morning

wow...

on a different note, how does the battery go from 5% to 50% after 15 minutes of charging? lol... kind of annoying... at least it went 7 hours today with heavy use...

Hey, this is a common "quirk" with the battery meter. Have you tried the conditioning of the battery? Some folks see good results in terms of, better battery life and more accurate battery life. I too once had this problem, if you'll notice, I actually started this thread because of my concerns about it.

As you can see, I have had great results using battery conditioning and wall charging then topping off with USB.

*update* still at 5%, at nearly 85 hours in. 90 Hours is just on the horizon!

I was wondering if someone could help me, I read in a post somewhere that if you download the advancedtask killer on the new momnent phone from sprint, it might help save the battery a little because it kills alot of the apps. Is that true or not
Yes, that is true.
Whether or not a task killer will speed up your phone is still under debate, but yes, overall/generally a task killer will make your battery last longer.

But the biggest difference is made by conditioning your battery/phone. Charge it all the way up and then run it until it dies (ignore the 15% warning, let it actually die). Do that a few times, and it will be good to go!

Great results. I am going to start topping off at night and then usb charging while at work and see if I get similar reults. My usb charging is definetly lasting longer. getting about a day and a half on it now. When on BT calls I flip the phone upside down so the screen powers off. Other than that I simply enjoy the phone. I have wall usb and car chargers so I am not terribly worried about it dying when it does but I like that it is lasting so much longer.

I actually exchanged my first moment for another one because I was convinced that the 1-4 hour battery life was a defective phone. Turns out it was probably operator error. Still not having much luck with keeping a charge despite reading this thread. I'm not the most tech savvy, so, I'm going to pose a few questions to get my Moment on track, a new users guide so to speak. Hope this helps others in a similar spot.

1 If having poor battery life, where do I want to look in the Spare parts app? I know I want to look at the awake time under Battery history to see if programs have been running and not letting it sleep when it's supposed to, but is there a way to tell which programs are the problem?

2 How do I do a factory reset and when is it advisable?

3 What are known problem apps / known safe apps in terms of running when they aren't supposed to?

4 What apps / setup are people with better battery life using? Which task managers are people with better battery life using and how are they configuring them? I have three different ones, Advanced Task Killer Free, Task Manager 1.10.9 and Advanced Task Manager (paid) and am sure they would help more if I could pick the best one and configure it better.

5 Is using wifi when possible going to save or cost you battery life?

6 I would post the apps I have installed but I forget how to see the list of what you've downloaded. Does anyone remember this?

Thanks to anyone who can help on this! I love this phone and don't want to return it due to battery isssues! Again, after all of this is straightened out, perhaps it could be stickyed as a new user / less tech savvy user guide to get your Moment on track. In the meantime, I'll keep charging and try to top off with the USB! Thanks, Mike

I am still struggling to get decent life out of this phone. My hero would go 15+ hours and carry me through the day with the same apps/set up I have on the moment. I've tried a few charging cycles with no luck so far. I'm going to try USB charging tonight, but I hope I can eventually use the wall charger since it's much faster.

Well she finally kicked the bucket at 89 1/2 hours.. was hopeing for 90 but nope....

So there you go, battery conditioning + wall charger then USB = 89 hours battery life (for me)

How much did you actually use the phone during this time. When I do things like play a game or 2, some text, talk on the phone maybe 20 minutes through out the day The phone is usually on about 60 or 50 % by 3pm. I start using at about 6:30 am and have even kept it turned off completely during about 5 of those hours. I charge only using the USB.

I recently exchanged my battery for a new one. Im going to try out this charging cycle.

Im going to drain the fresh new battery i got without charging it first.

Then charge it up to the max with the wall charger then charge it with the usb for at least 24 hours.

How do you guys feel about me draining the fresh battery without putting a charge on it first?

Just got my Moment on 11/13, and first of all let me say that I LOVE it... :D

I've been following this thread for quite some time, and I just thought I'd throw in my two cents regarding the battery. I drained the battery when I first got the phone (which took about 3-5 hours), then charged it using the wall charger. After that, I got about 8 hours of life out of it before starting the battery conditioning method you've all been suggesting.

After 2 power cycles, and using Adrift's method of "topping off" the battery with the USB charger, I was able to get over 18 hours (2:30am - 8:30p) today with HEAVY usage (Google Maps w/GPS while driving, WiFi for at least 3 hours, app downloads, etc.) and being in an area all afternoon where I was constantly going in and out of service (which we all know is murder on a cell phone battery).

So no matter how ridiculous this process may seem to you, I'd sincerely suggest trying it before you give up on the Moment, which goes without saying is a kick-a$$ phone! :D

This was just a test to see how long the phone would hold after charging using wall charger then topping off with USB. So only light usage, calls only when needed or recieved, same with texts, about 30 seconds of Sprint TV, Some internet, some Youtube, Some Camera. 90% of that 89 hours was down time though.
