Great grocery list app found!

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I was so happy with this app I just wanted to share here. (no, I didn't write it or have anything to do with it)

Was looking for a simple "grocery list" app, and there are tons of them. The thing I love best about "Our Groceries" is how cool and easily it shares lists across it's website and OTHER non-Android phones.

My wife has a Blackberry (and she loves it, don't ask me why..) but anyway, so I installed this grocery app on both our phones, and it automatically sync's the lists:

OurGroceries - Features

I've also replaced my "To Do" app with this one, instead of making a "grocery list" I just add a "to do" list and it sync's across both phones too. Kinda cool but now my wife can add to my to do list too easy..

We also use it and think it is the greatest. We also use the "Recipe" function to create lists of things that we do often and don't want to forget to bring something. For example, we play in a band, so each time we pack up we want to make sure we don't forget anything. We now have a recipe called "band". When we recall it, we both check off what we put in our trailer as we do it. It's also great for camping or other traveling.

We love how fast grocery shopping is now. I start on one side of the store an she starts on the other. We usually meet somewhere in the middle and everything is checked off. It's pretty cool to see the things get checked off as she gets them.

We tried it briefly, but couldn't find an obvious way to create lists for different stores. We switched to Grocery iQ which allows multiple lists and also syncs seamlessly...

Do you sync to a Blackberry? I didn't see where Grocery IQ worked on Blackberry's, but maybe I missed it. That's actually the first one I looked at, and it looked cool but we just wanted to sync between our phones. (Android and Blackberry)

I love, LOVE this app. My wife and I had friends coming over for dinner and had to run to the grocery. Since we got a late start, we split up in the grocery story to try to finish as quickly as possible. Both of us had this app and android phones.

It worked flawlessly! We finished our shopping in half the time. It was great to look down at the list and see things being marked off as she found them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just got the droid x and gave my technology challenged husband my droid 1. I gave his this app, he does the shopping since he works in a grocery store. He calls me everyday for our list but now he just looks at the app and doesn't forget what I tell him to get. This is going to be a very well used app in our house. It even syncs from my iPad.

Another tangent: Is there any way to sync a droid grocery list to your PC either through direct USB connection or through Google in some way?

I use Jorte Calendar, for instance, and I type out my schedule on Google Calandar and then sync my HTC Hero directly to Google. The truth is I have three different groceries programs on my Hero, and none of them seem any good. I don't want to type out grocery lists on this device.

Edit: Might as well post the answer to my own question since I just found one that I will share in case anyone else had a similar question. There is an app caled You've got shopping, I kid you not! It is a very nice little app that allows you to email your shopping list to your phone. It's free, but the only caveat is you have to follow the VERY EASY directions exactly or the program will ignore your shopping list. There is an initial setup that takes like 3 minutes, tops I just tested it out and it works fantastic! Anyway, sorry to answer my own question, folks, but I bet one or two of you probably wanted to know it. ;)

I'd love to see an app that allows me to sync my shopping list to someone that doesn't have a smartphone and vica versa.

OurGroceries syncs with the computer as well. So you can have the wife updating from a smartphone, while the kids are updating from the computer, all the while you are shopping and checking off the list.

Truly remarkable!

This looks like a good thread to post this in:

I recently did a comparison of OurGroceries and Grocery iQ. Surprise, surprise, neither had all the features I want/need. Unfortunately, using both apps is horribly inefficient, so I have to pick one.

IMO, OurGroceries has far more potential but Grocery iQ is a superior time saver as of right now. If my main priority was list synchronization, OurGroceries would be the way to go, but since my main priority is in-store-efficiency, Grocery iQ is the easy choice, especially if I shop at more than one store on a regular basis (I do). The main reason Grocery iQ does make in-store-shopping so much more efficient is b/c of the ability to set up different stores and set the store aisles. You can then apply any shopping list to any store and it will sort things by aisle for you.

So am I settling for Grocery iQ you ask? Not exactly: below is an email I sent to the OurGroceries team (support@ourgroceries.com and info@ourgroceries.com both got the email bc I wasn't sure which to go to first).
HINT: I suggest that you send similar emails if you feel the same as me about the needed additions to OurGroceries... I mean who doesn't want an uber app?!

I wanted to email to express my gratitude for the excellent app you've produced. It has helped me be more productive and thorough when shopping already.

The next part of the email is suggestions. I'm sure you get these all the time, and I apologize for joining the crowd, but I recently found an app that puts me between a rock and a hard place when it comes to choosing between the two apps. Before I get going, I want acknowledge that I am not paying for your app, and therefore, this email should be taken as a humble request: I am by no means suggesting that I deserve these features or that you owe me them. I completely understand that the only real reason you for making changes is to stay competitive, so I'm simply hoping to provide some suggestions to assist you in doing that. It appears that your only real competition on the Android platform is Grocery iQ, so that is the other app I will focus on.

Right now I'm left wavering between your OurGroceries app and Grocery iQ app. Here's my comparison to help you understand what I'm looking for (and based on the comments on the market and in a few forums I'm a member of, it isn't just me):

OurGroceries app advantages:
> Better syncing between more devices (Grocery iQ only does btwn other phones)
> Recipe feature (not present in Grocery iQ)
> Quicker/more simple adding of items
> Ability to text message a list (Grocery iQ does emailing only which means I need to copy/paste to send via text message)

Grocery iQ app advantages:
> Stores feature (the draw of this is the ability to enter aisle numbers for different stores and then filter my shopping checklists by aisle for a given store. This is a HUGE time saver.)
> Ability to add item prices and more detailed info

Both apps are missing:
> The ability to check off or uncheck all items at once (a check all/ uncheck all feature).

Right now since my need to be more efficient outweighs my need for sharing, Grocery iQ seems to be the better choice, simply because it keeps me organized by asile at all my regular stores. As I mentioned before, this is a HUGE HUUUUGE time saver. Overall, I like OurGroceries better, but the store/aisles feature in Grocery iQ is really indispensable. Please let me know if you are planning to include a similar functionality any time in the near future for your Android version of OurGroceries.

GROCERY IQ HELP ... I also am LOVING Grocery IQ, using it for a few months now BUT I need help... when I add things on the www.groceryiq website, it doesn't add it to my phone, even though I use the same login, I have even tried to log out on my phone and log back in but it doesn't update.. I actually have to delete the app, and re add it. Any thing Im missing here???

We tried it briefly, but couldn't find an obvious way to create lists for different stores. We switched to Grocery iQ which allows multiple lists and also syncs seamlessly...

I wish it would sync seamlessly for my wife and I. Whenever I add or take something off it will show up on hers, but when she adds or takes something off it does not show up on mine about 20% of the time (she creates a list with 20 items and only 16 will show up on mine).

We thought about switching but have decided to wait and hope that they get the sync part working better.
